Kumagami was the one privy to Shun's entire story about the alternate timeline, about why he came back to save his family. Kumagami knew when he walked into the council room that day to announce "collapse" that he was talking about Ayumi.
I don't know if this realization is why he starts using an authoritative big brother voice on Yusa a minute later...
...but she kind of reacts the way Ayumi probably would.
After so much pain and fear and shoving all his feelings down so that love and hope couldn't hurt him anymore, he's finally willing to feel love again.
Yuu and Misa have more in common than they appeared at first.
I wonder if he likes curry so much in this timeline because some part of him still remembered how much the research facility in the other timeline ruined it.
And what a derp he is right here fjakaruiavpo
I think Charlotte has the best family dynamic of any show I've ever seen. I love how they all love each other and are all so affectionate with one another.
Shun is very affectionate. He's not afraid to touch, hug, kiss, and say "I love you."
Yuu can be like that, too, when he's not afraid to let his feelings show.
And Ayumi just be like that, anyway.
It's honestly a little funny how Yuu gets jealous when Shun and Ayumi start spending time together. It plays on his selfish insecurities and fear of loneliness. Yet it's one more thing that helps to heal him- letting go, I mean.
Letting go of his siblings allowed Yuu to open up to others. We see him beginning to try to make friend with the other residents of the facility. And then, his deepening relationship with Tomori.
Yuu is someone who needs people. He just can't handle being alone. And while I still say this isn't a bad thing in itself, what is bad is that he's spent years attaching himself to only a very few people. This only served to increase his feelings of loneliness, fear, and insecurity, because... well, we know what happens when he loses those people, what he becomes.
And while it's not a good thing for him to pretty much jump to Tomori almost as soon as he is forced to start letting go of Ayumi, he's taking a step in the right direction. And anyway, it really does seem like things were set up in such a way that Tomori was waiting for him when he finally did have to start letting go of his family.
The amount of love in this family is just so *loud crying*
Of course, Ayumi's scared. Kumagami just comes across as big and scary.
And Yuu's just like, "Finally, we're a family again!"
I absolutely LOVE this. It's about time he becomes a real man.
There is a stark contrast between Yuu's reaction to hearing about Collapse the first time...
...and the second time.
Granted, this time, he already knows. But the first time, he was just focused on hoping it wasn't her. This time, he KNOWS he can stop this from happening.
His reaction to seeing her again...
This was Shun's primary concern all along, to save his family. And he failed in this timeline. But. He knew Yuu could do it.
Yuu always dreads those words. He dreads having other people rely on him. He's been a coward and a cheat for years. He can't even depend on himself, why do other people put so much pressure on him?
But this is his brother. And Shun has proven to be dependable and safe. So somehow, Yuu manages it.
Plus, a little side glance at Tomori, and seeing her faith in him...
These are the two people who mean the most to him, besides Ayumi. With all of them with him, he's not so afraid anymore.
Ok, time to dive into the strangest, most unexplainable part of the entire show:
So, the boy's always been a Zhiend fan, and he didn't even know it. They turned out to be the key to unlocking his memory (a lot like Kazuki! man, I would have loved to have seen Yuu and Kazuki interact, just to see if they parallel each other in any other ways).
When you first realize this is a flashback, it's like, "oh, ok, he was just having flashbacks and memories every time he heard them."
BUT!
That timeline was ERASED!!! When Shun made his first Time Leap!
There's NO reason Yuu should be able to remember a timeline that hasn't happened. But he knew Kumagami by NAME, although Kumagami had never given his name. So yes, the memory was real.
I have a theory about this. I think that sometimes siblings may have an affinity for a certain kind of ability. With the Tomoris, it's bending physics:
Kazuki bends the air to make it vibrate, and Tomori bends light waves around herself.
I think the Otosakas have a time affinity.
Ayumi had a prophetic dream. She literally saw her own death.
Of course, Shun has Time Leap.
So, why couldn't Yuu be able to see himself in alternate timelines?
And, of course, the first time Ayumi mentions Shun...
I was like, "family? what?"
And at some point, remembered:
Typical Yuu, pushing away his own feelings, his own dreams, to protect himself from the pain of hope.
But the flashback of the facility felt more real than a dream. And Yuu finally has to face the fact that all his feelings were real. All his dreams, all his memories, all his hopes, were real.
This honestly, totally sucks. For all of them. And, I get it. He's a target. He can't stay with his family and risk them getting hurt again. And if they know where he is, they won't be able to stay away. Yuu and Ayumi need him too much. So they have to forget him.
Shun is crushed by this. And it did a number on his siblings, especially Yuu. Sucks that sometimes the right thing to do can leave more scars than any other course of action.
