Maybe I misread the novel or read a slightly off translation, but I wasn't sure it was specified how mxy had the red eye makeup when wwx woke up so I guess I just assumed like it was the people being mean to him? Who gave him bad makeup as a way to bully him? It never occurred to me that it could have been mxy himself applying the bad makeup tbh
Well, tbh that could be true. The wiki states that: “He often painted his face white and rouged his cheeks, giving him the appearance of a ‘hanged ghost.’” but the source for that is based on Chapter 2 of the novel, and the most that’s written in chapter 2 is:
“Fortunately, the body wasn’t born this way—it was only one of the owner’s penchants. He was no-doubt a man, yet he was covered with makeup (not to mention, badly applied makeup). Ugh, how unbearable!”
Since that’s wwx’s account (an assumption -- it’s not like he rly knows mxy), there’s nothing rly in the novel or donghua that hints that mxy actually owns makeup. You could be right.
But also in Chapter 3 of the manhua, the makeup is clearly shown to be part of mxy’s belongings. Mxy kept it in his personal little lock box, plus, the makeup looks way too nice for it to be something people wanted to gift him as trash, so in the manhua I think you can conclude that mxy owns the makeup.
Because of wwx’s claims of mxy being a cutsleeve who wears makeup badly or whatever, and because of the manhua, i guess most people have concluded that mxy owns the makeup in all adaptations as a generalization.
That’s not to say that because something is true in the manhua, it’s true for the other sources as well. For example, in the live drama wwx actually keeps his original body and wears a mask which is completely different from the other adaptations. Each adaptation has its own canon and each adaptation is equally valid as a ‘canon’ since mxtx gets the $$ for each adaptation
So I guess what I’m trying to say after all of that, is if you think that mxy was being bullied and thats why he had that makeup, then that could be true! i actually never considered that perhaps people bullied him into bad makeup, and i think that’s an interesting approach. i hope me presenting you with all those sources helps you a little with what you think happened with mxy’s makeup and i hope i didnt bore you lmao
I know mxy already has the iconic red eye circle makeup on in the novel & donghua when wwx wakes up, but in the manhua wwx is the one who applies the makeup.
so i like to think that in the manhua at least, maybe mxy is actually p good at makeup. and wwx is just...... wwx

Brooo people getting mad over a head canon? They sound so aggressive about it too like damn. From what they said it sounds like a lot of the fandom is angry like is that true? I've never participated in fandom stuff other than reblogging all the lovely art and fics
Ill be honest, I don’t really participate in fandom stuff either. I just make stuff I think won’t ruffle any feathers and silently slink around in the background. But I’ve heard that a lot of the fandom is pretty Passionately touchy about certain ships and certain topics. It’s not necessarily a bad thing either, it kind of goes back to that discussion of: “What should be allowed on the Internet, and What should be Censored, and if Adding disclaimers and tagging things is enough”.
I do have my own opinions but I don’t think I’m the person who should lead this conversation lmao I’ve already done my share of confrontation for the day. All I can say is I hope eventually some sort of agreement is reached so that we can still encourage as much creativity as possible while protecting those who might be hurt by certain content.
To all those who believe such rumours that bring nothing but more rage and hate in a fandom that’s more than full of that - please, first make proper research.
Wei Wuxian did wear Jiang robes until he turned to demonic cultivation. The reasons for that are likely not only that he abandoned his ties with the Jiang Sect but also that black doesn’t get dirty the way even purple still does. Stop spreading false information, please, and even less as if it’s canon. Apart from that it makes him stand out more. That’s all there is to it.
Ahh I’m sorry that my thought offended you. Perhaps I should’ve added a disclaimer so that people would know that wwx wearing red and black yunmeng robes isn’t true according to the novel. And also that the og post is just a thought I had, it’s definitely not canon.
In the donghua, which I understand was not 100% loyal to the novel, wwx is shown wearing red and black. I really didn’t like it because I felt like the only reason that the animators made it that way was so that he would stand out as the main character. The og post was just a Thought I had while trying to come up with other justifications as to why he’s wearing red and black, but it is just a thought, DEFINITELY not canon.

I thought it was relatively harmless but I know now that the colour of wwx’s robes is apparently a hugely controversial topic that spurs a lot of hatred and rage in this community and I should definitely add more disclaimers to all of my posts for the people who do not do Proper Research.
A Thought I Had (not canon) About the DongHua: maybe wei wuxian isnt allowed to wear Yunmeng Jiang sect colours, so that he’d always be alienated from the sect.

When Wei Wuxian was brought back by Mo XuanYu, he never planned on staying. He lived his life and died, his story was done. But he did want to fix all of the issues that he had left behind. He went through the novel and played his part. At the end, he was able to resolve all things that were left unresolved in his death. He finally made up with Jiang Cheng. He finally met his nephew, Jin Ling. He finally understood his soulmate, Lan Wangji.
But there was one last thing that wasn’t resolved.
WWX was incredible thankful to MXY for giving him a second chance to tie up loose ends. MXY, someone who was misunderstood and abused, died partially due to his inventions. And so, WWX decides to give MXY his life back, to give MXY a second chance just as MXY had given him.
(is lwj and co. torn up about this? yes. was that selfish of wwx? maybe. but wwx never did ask others for permission to do what he wanted.)

Wei Wuxian smiles to himself. “You know, Lan Zhan,” he says thoughtfully, staring into the morning mist shrouded trees, “I really shouldn’t be alive.” He’s not looking behind him but he feels Lan Wangji tense, feels the air grow heavy between them. His eyes close for a moment and he lets out a breath.
“I died 13 years ago. And if it wasn’t for Mo Xuanyu, I would have stayed dead-”
