First known case of heterochromia in an Italian wolf (Canis lupus italicus) in south Piedmont, Italy.
The animal is likely to be a hybrid between an Italian wolf and domestic dog. Hybridisation between the two has become common to the point it is putting the subspecies at risk. Some of these hybrids have been successfully captured and sterilised to prevent them from breeding.
