Well the portal pretty much closes too fast for anyone else to come through, and Ford being a still SOMEWHAT emotional human he plans this so that there might be a chance to get his family to join without forcing weirdmageddon on them.

He wanted to give them a chance or the illusion of a choice before he and Bill inevitably bring the "end of the world" this makes sense because Ford is confident enough in himself to be able to convince his family to switch sides and give up the world!

Most things play out the same!

His backstory is the same, Ford simply chooses to lose his shit this time instead of focusing on studies, like a mad scientist

He would put the unicorn barrier on the shack as he did in the show, this might give him and Bill a disadvantage but it will help him gain trust in the process. He would contribute majorly to Mabel and Dipper's falling out so that NOT ONLY will mabel get tricked by Bill, she will not be easily rescued by Dipper during weirdmageddon. The rift between the twins will be solved in an entirely different way

Question for the Opposition AU

So if Stan is trying to keep the portal closed, and originally Ford had notes warning people against opening the portal, is he going to play 4d chess here and leave notes convincing the reader (Dipper and crew) that the portal needs to be opened and that he'd been trapped?

During the Portal scene, Ford would have actually taken the journal WITH HIM into the portal. But with Bill's help they would write down instructions to reopen the portal and send the journal back into gravity falls.

(There is a twist to this, but I've yet to show McGucket in this AU, he is one of the most important people here)

The Mind Reader scene in my AU!

I've always wished for Ford to turn out to be a bad guy in this scene.

Dipper: "G-Grunkle Ford is-"
Ford: "You're smart, Dipper. Don't do something stupid that you'll regret. If you join Bill, if you join ME you can learn things this world could never offer you."
Dipper: "But Mabel-"
Ford: "Oh, her? Well she's just an extra is she not? How many times will you sacrifice a good opportunity, just for her happiness? Don't you think it's your turn to be a little selfish too?"
Dipper: "..."

Aftermath: Ford would most likely shoot Dipper with the memory gun, he would not actually shoot him with the gun he has on his person.

To expand on Bill's view of Stanford, he does NOT view Ford as an equal, it is just as complicated as it was in the show and books. Bill still won't let anyone treat Ford lesser than + he lets him have more freedom due to compliance and biases
