I just found out Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among thieves barely broke even at the box office. This surprised me considering it was probably the best fantasy movie I'd seen in a long time.
I think there were two things against it.
1. People mistakenly thought it had to do with the previous Dungeons and Dragons movies. It really doesn't. It's just set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. You do not need to have watched any previous film to be able to follow it.
2. The poster. This movie has a terrible movie poster. It looks like a generic Marvel superhero movie poster. It doesn't give you an idea for the film or its tone at all. It's a boring, bland, and would be easy to over-look in the cinema.
I sincerely hope this movie gets the attention it deserves now in streaming and grows as a cult classic the way Princess Bride and Neil Gaiman's Stardust did.
