VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, Mark Robson’s wonderfully campy 1967 tale of glamour and excess arrives today on Blu-ray & DVD!
In ¿Las cual de 13?, aka 12 + 1, aka Twelve Plus One, an Italian barber played by Vittorio Gassman inherits thirteen chairs and, deeming them useless, sells them to a London antique shop. He later discovers one of the chairs contains a fortune, but when he returns to the shop he's told they've all been sold. So he offers the antique shop employee Sharon Tate half of the fortune to help him track down the chairs, which of course have scattered to the four winds.

I always find camp classic “Valley of the Dolls” incredibly poigant. With Dionne Warwick’s heartbreaking theme song (by André and Dory Previn), Sharon Tate’s tragic death and Patty Duke’s struggles (and survival) with mental illness, whenever I re-watch the film, by the end, it becomes almost surprisingly moving. Entertaining as hell but really damn sad. And Patty Duke gives Neely O’ Hara her all. Who doesn’t want to scream “Neely O’ Hara!” every once in a while? I do right now. I love that performance. Rest in Peace, Patty Duke.
