Page 38, “The Careless”: “They’re not psychologically disturbed individuals, who should necessarily be kept away from an activity that puts people’s lives at stake, including their own. They’re normal people; they only change when they’re behind the wheel of a car. They’re the ones who admire bewitched the surrounding landscape, or are distracted by events alien to the traffic, without considering that unexpected things might happen. They’re the ones who can’t choose the best opportunity to admire a beautiful woman who walks by, and therefore sometimes do it precisely when the car in front of them has to stop. They’re in permanent disregard of traffic signs and so they have an enlightening record as to their multiple distractions. They’re individuals whom the police should control carefully, for they often cause accidents and a temporary rest from the activity would do them good, in those cases where they seem to be unrepentant.”
