Barbara Parkins (as Anne Welles), Sharon Tate (as Jennifer North), and Patty Duke (as Neely O’Hara), posing for Valley of the Dolls, 1967
VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, Mark Robson’s wonderfully campy 1967 tale of glamour and excess arrives today on Blu-ray & DVD!
Patty Duke in “Valley of the Dolls” (1967)
I always find camp classic “Valley of the Dolls” incredibly poigant. With Dionne Warwick’s heartbreaking theme song (by André and Dory Previn), Sharon Tate’s tragic death and Patty Duke’s struggles (and survival) with mental illness, whenever I re-watch the film, by the end, it becomes almost surprisingly moving. Entertaining as hell but really damn sad. And Patty Duke gives Neely O’ Hara her all. Who doesn’t want to scream “Neely O’ Hara!” every once in a while? I do right now. I love that performance. Rest in Peace, Patty Duke.
