I remember you
Fictober Day 30
Prompt: “You’re looking, but you don’t see.”
Fandom: House of the Dragon
Pairing: Alicent Hightower/Rhaenyra Targaryen
Rating: Teen and Up
Summary: Alicent tries to tell Rhaenyra how she feels about her.
Despite constant pleadings from her father, Alicent Hightower had not yet found a suitable husband.
She had been introduced to many men described as perfect, but that was never enough. The truth was that the man’s qualities did not matter; it was his gender that would never be to her taste.
She could tell no one.
Rhaenyra had often joked with Alicent that she was still a maiden yet close to becoming an old maid. She only smiled in response.
This was her second secret-she loved her best friend as she should love a husband. It had taken years of soul searching for her to come to this painful conclusion. Sometimes Alicent wished she was still in the dark, still searching for that perfect man to solve all of this. Yet knowing this about herself was one of the few things that were truly her own, and she kept it close to her heart.
When Rhaenyra wed Laenor, Alicent was close to her breaking point. To not only witness the spectacle, but that she was to be wedded to a man that could not love her as she deserved to be loved was almost too much for her to bear.
On Rhaenyra’s nineteenth name day Alicent came to call on her, and before the festivities began she visited her room. It had taken the princess time, but she eventually forgave her for the advances she made towards her father. “It wasn’t your fault,” she had said once.
Alicent clung to those words, all the while knowing that the feelings she had towards her friend were.
the saddest word
in the whole wide world
is the word almost…
Fictober Day 23
Prompt: “There’s only us.”
Fandom: House of the Dragon
Pairing: Alicent Hightower/Rhaenyra Targaryen
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Rhaenyra and Alicent find time to be alone.
All throughout dinner, she could feel her eyes on her. Watching. It was all Alicent could do not to make an excuse for herself right then to leave, and Rhaenyra would likely follow suit. The only thing that stopped her was the knowledge that part of being a queen was sitting through unpleasant events.
Finally, mercifully, the meal came to an end and Alicent bid goodnight to the king. She went to his room and he went to his, and she prayed that he did not come to call on her later, for she had other plans. Alicent changed into a beautiful green silk nightgown and dismissed her servants. She looked down at herself and fiddled with her hands.
When the time came to it she was hesitant. Her and Rhaenyra had been stealing kisses for weeks now. As they got bolder, what if someone found out? What if people already knew? A knock at her door startled her out of her thoughts and she went to answer it. Standing there was Rhaenyra, her childhood friend, the princess, her lover, still in her evening gown. She pushed her way into Alicent’s bedroom and the brunette stumbled backward, surprised by her insistence.
“What are you doing?” She whispered, as if this wasn’t something she dreamed of since she was a child. But propriety was a habit.
“You, hopefully.” Rhaenyra lurched towards her and kissed her on the lips. Alicent responded greedily, her hands grasping her face. It took all the will of the Seven for her to break away. There was still one more thing.
Fictober Day 19
Prompt: “Do we have a deal?”
Fandom: House of the Dragon
Pairing: Alicent Hightower/Rhaenyra Targaryen
Rating: General
Summary: Young Alicent’s life changes forever on one summer night.
Alicent never enjoyed reading quite as much as she did when Rhaenyra laid her head in her lap. They were fifteen and as carefree as the days were long, the grass was greener than ever and the flowers were in bloom. A perfect night. She thought to herself.
The two of them enjoyed each other’s company in comfortable silence for a bit; Rhaenyra listening to the birds sing and Alicent pretending to be engrossed in her book and not the feeling of her best friend’s back across her thighs.
As if on cue, Rhaenyra looked up at her and asked, “What are you reading?”
Alicent ran her fingers through her blonde hair. “It’s a book about love.”
Rhaenyra looked confused. “That’s not specific enough. Many books are about love.”
Alicent leaned against the tree trunk and looked across the clearing. “True enough. Love between mother and father, love between husband and wife-”
“And love between friends.” Rhaenyra piped up.
The brunette smiled. “And love between friends.” She knew then that there would never be another moment like this one. She leaned down and kissed the princess on the lips, first light and soft, then when she got no response harder and more insistent.
Rhaenyra sat up suddenly and gasped. “What are you doing?”
Alicent blinked. “I-”
“What was that?”
Still delirious from the kiss, Alicent was slow to respond. “...I don’t know.”
“I do.” Rhaenyra said. She looked disgusted and disturbed and it broke Alicent inside. She stood up and put a finger in her friend’s face.
“Never do that again to me or any other girl or I will personally tell my father, or your father, or whoever I can.”
Alicent fought back tears.
“Do we have a deal?” Rhaenyra continued, her voice wavering a bit. Her heart was not behind this viciousness.
“Yes.” Alicent whispered.
“Good,” Rhaneyra stalked away, leaving Alicent to sob and stain her book with brokenhearted tears.
