I know I’m probably not the first person to say it, but I really love how Arthur is portrayed as being physically fit and capable without washboard abs. Make no mistake, he looks amazing and hot as hell, but in an industry that seems to want to portray men as these sort of super-muscled Adonises I love that Arthur and the knights are incredibly but realistically fit men. They have muscle and definition and I have no doubt they were all working out to get to and maintain that but they’re REAL levels of muscular.
Plus, even though he’s trying to get a rise out of Arthur, Merlin’s teasing about Arthur getting fat is never just the butt of the joke. No matter how many jokes Merlin (and the show) makes at Arthur’s expense about him putting on weight, he’s never shown as anything less than a physically capable warrior at his peak. The fact that ‘a little extra padding comes with the job’ is something Arthur is unhappy about, but he’s never shown trying to lose weight, he just keeps up with his training and proves that he is still the best fighter and a King perfectly able to defend his kingdom. Plus, he’s never seen as less attractive in the context of the show itself. Everyone is always swooning over him from episode one right to the end of season 5.
I don’t know, I just really love that.

I have a problem with the whole idea of “ you don’t deserve praise for preforming basic decency” on one hand i think it’s right but on the other it’s like,,, that’s not how humans work if someone’s trying to improve themselves and be kinder and more aware about the suffering of others I think we should reward and encourage that,,, not like give a prize or anything but like a quiet “hey you did good” to let them know they’re in the right track

My favourite touching moment in Merlin is actually the deleted scene where Arthur gives Merlin his mother’s sigil. It was such a great moment and I don’t know why they deleted it!
