GAHH BOOK 11 WAS SO BRILLIANT I tried to draw my favorite scene but cannot do it justice sorry for the crappy art. I also don’t remember if Windwalker had a saddle or not, but I couldn’t really figure out how to draw otherwise. Anyway, yeah. I tried.

Also, thank you so much to everyone who said nice things about my earlier drawings! It means a lot to me :)

I was thinking about Book!Hiccup and Book!Snotlout and how they’re each other’s opposite, and then I realized another way they were opposites.

Book!Hiccup was healed by being shot by an arrow, and Book!Snotlout was killed by one.

Hehehehehe I think you guys are beginning to discover I’m in an evil mood.

So let’s talk about Snotlout, Furious, and Hiccup. 

Mostly because I’m curious, of course.

And also because I’m feeling evil.

My first question to you guys: how many of you are in the camp of Furious-dies-at-the-end-of-Book-12?

My second question to you guys: how many of you are in the camp of Snotlout-knew-he-was-going-to-die-when-he-flew-off-that-boat?

My third question to you guys: how many of you are in the camp of Hiccup-died-just-after-he-finished-writing-his-memoirs? 

Because I am very, very firmly in all three.

Oh dear. I do so apologise.

I might be with you on all of them, except maybe the first and last. Only because I want to say that Furious got to swim out to sea for a good while before sinking into the unknown depths of the ocean and that Hiccup got to have a few more days with Toothless and everyone else. But I might be leaning more towards yours

I’m not sure. I just feel it in my bones that all three of them knew…And that all three of them were ready. And actually, in a strange way, that makes me a bit happier. Because I had this feeling, reading through, that all three of them reached a point where they had faced up their pasts: Snotlout had finally defeated his demons, Furious had rediscovered love, and Hiccup had finally shared what had really happened to him in his childhood. 

Snotlout and Furious had nearly completed their arc. They were ready to make the sacrifice, and finish it, and save Hiccup, and create a legacy that could never be destroyed. They died in their own way, on their own terms. They weren’t scared. They faced death like they had faced life: as heroes, when it all came down to it. 

Hiccup knew, as Toothless knew, that an era was about to end. Toothless was about to leave forever, just as Hiccup, to me, was too. Hiccup never lived a life without dragons. He knew, instinctively, that it was nearly time. And that was okay. He and Toothless would leave each other together, having achieved all they could have dreamed of achieving. The only thing left for Hiccup was to write. Here he could truly acknowledge his story, and complete it, and pass it on for the next generation. Here he was preparing the next band of heroes to do their part, and change the world. 

And so he too was ready. 

Like you, I don’t believe this would be an immediate thing. There’s no need for that, because they still have people to say goodbye to, and a time to leave the world with dignity and freedom.  

But still, to me, they were ready. 

All three of these people went on huge journeys, made huge mistakes and did huge heroic deeds. And sad though it is, it also makes me happy that they could choose to leave their first world on their own terms, free and full of love, and forever be preserved as they are: incredible, inspirational heroes, who together changed the world.

Furious' death seems very fitting because I like to think he finally got to see his Hiccup again- Hiccup the Second. That was nice to think of.

I'm not sure about our Hiccup dying right after he wrote his memoirs, but if so, perhaps Toothless was the one who hid the memoirs in places where no one would find them for hundreds of years. Actually- I can imagine this scenario where Hiccup has all the boxes with the books ready and tells Toothless to play hide and seek with him, to hide the boxes where he thought Hiccup could never find them. Toothless does that gleefully but when he realizes Hiccup hasn't gone searching yet, he goes back home and Hiccup is either dying or already de-

book!snotlout’s character development is so well done I want to cry. he goes from the “omg can he just die already” character to the “I SWEAR TO GOD THIS BOY IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN” character to the “please save my smol child” character. over twelve books he becomes three completely different characters and there’s realistic motives for when he turns into the next character and you can see the shifts and my god it’s just so beautiful

I mean he wasn’t much of a “smol child” to me, haha, but nonetheless I love how his status as Hiccup’s cousin, his being the former heir to chief, his pride and how he wants to be admired as a Hero from his tribe(Snotlout and Gobber though. We gotta talk more about that) all come together behind his actions, ranging from absolutely terrible betrayal and abuse to breaking down completely in shame. Seriously that scene in Book 11 is so powerful and I love how Cressida didn’t leave Snotlout to be Hiccup’s awful, nasty cousin. He took a while and did many wrongdoings but he did end up as a Hero.

What happened in the books?

Just the greatest tragedies, a pesky little arrow that saves someone… the book version of Snoutlout who is somewhat similar to this Snoutlout… just stay wary of every post mentioning snotlout and the books until you read them to the end. Because what happens causes people to make jokes about snotlout… and they are still not funny once you get them…

Actually arrows save people TWO times.
