so basically you've shifted from blood magic being a fascinating and nuanced part of magic to a flat out "its evil and no hero would ever use it" is what you're saying . you've removed a depth of characterisation and of gameplay for the sake of making your narrative as black and white as you possibly can, just so you get to continue the narrative you've built throughout three games that unless one is a "good victim", they deserve their abuse. yeah?
there are times in one's life where one must simply review anecdotes from one's childhood and think to oneself "wow, that was an autism in a trench coat"
I remember the day that I heard taylor swift’s next album would be called the tortured poets department I spent the rest of it repeating the phrase over and over in my head because something about how it rolled off the tongue bothered me so badly
I texted my sisters like this sometime around then
this is the closest you can get to experiencing a jumpscare on social media
So. I just got to THAT part of Kingdom Hearts.
WHAT THE FUCK
Politics in Skyrim: uh there's stuff happening if you're interested.
Politics in Dragon Age: Oh you didn't want to get involved? Fuck you, pick a king.
YES, trans people know that you're "ethically consuming" HP by pirating, second hand and writing fanfics where everyone is trans (forgive me for sounding elitist but I'm not sure if fanfiction constitutes praxis), we know that there's no way to unmake JKR's McDuck-esque wealth without a guillotine, we know that the franchise singlehandedly raised you and saved your life
But the moment you bring that into a public space you risk flying a red flag to trans people. We can't intuitively know whether your money is being donated by proxy to transphobic hate groups as we speak, and if the extent of your trans advocacy is "fic where trans witch successfully accesses the girls' dorms uwu" that's not allyship, that's guilt, it shows that you're not willing to sacrifice even minor things for the sake of not reminding trans people of the influental people who are actively driving hate campaigns against them every time they log in
ESPECIALLY when people turn around and defend JK/make no effort to help trans people in front of British trans people.
Like I don’t think anyone understands how much it hurts when I see an American trans HP fan say ‘well I disagree with Rowling but the books saved me so I won’t give it up’ - it just comes across as incredibly tone deaf. Like, you want to prioritise a fictional wizard over a real fucking trans person from the UK impacted by JK Rowling’s influence on the puberty blocker debate and anti-trans lobby groups.
Can you relate? Which one are you? I think I am all of them.
