the exes-to-lovers serve yup

steve and nancy were each other's safe place. each other's normalcy. they were happy teens before shit went down and they tried to make it work because they were the other's last bit of normal life, of life before the trauma. but the trauma was there and it never got away and they didn't deal with it, they just tried to ignore it. and then it became too much and nancy broke and they drifted apart.

steve grew as a person and distanced himself from his shitty ass friends and found his annoying ass pack of little dumbass siblings and his best friend and Platonic with a capital p soulmate. he's trying to find his person in a romantic way and trying to lowkey settle down in his adult life.

nancy figured out what she wanted from life, where she wanted to go to university and some sort of closure on the whole barb trauma. she also grew up and got into another relationship that was no doubt right at the time because it's what she needed back then.

they've both grown and their needs and desires and personalities have changed and now do compliment one another. they've dealt with things that they hadn't dealt with at the time of the break up and could be happy together. once again, and i'll never get tired of saying it, it does make sense.

I don’t know what writer needs to hear this

but you can write something very plain. 

You don’t have to write some genre-redefining masterpiece. You can write a story about two people very simply falling in love. You can just write a story about a person going to the store. You could, if you were so inclined, just re-write Star Wars but like, make all the names start with M.

Don’t let the fear of not-writing something transcendent stop you from just writing.
