Wandering through the Tate on vacation, it struck me how much the experience of hypnosis is like modern art
The ar'tist is engaged in the crafting, the creating, the feedback, but once the words are out of their mouth, it's out of their hand. The experience is entirely in the mind of the observer - the subject
There are technical elements: the composition *draws your focus* to specific places and the pairing of certain colors - and words - *tends* to complement or clash...
And there are contextual elements. **Fountain** is rubbish on the size of the road and among the most important works of the 20th century in exhibition. The set and setting do incredible work in making something art/hypnotic
There is an element of willingness and sensitivity on the part of the subject. Some people are naturally more sensitive to art. You can practice being a better hypnotic subject... or you can choose to turn yourself off to it - to reject the experience by drowning it in irony or by forcing it
And although there are oceans of fraud, pretense, and cringe in the halls of modern hypnosis... there are truly beautiful moments, too
