Jedi Code
prompt: @fallingstar95: “Hello dear! I was wondering if you’d possibly write a Cal Kestis imagine wherein he realizes his feelings for the reader but doesn’t know how to go about them because of his Jedi upbringing forbidding attachment? But luckily for him, she ends up liking him too and he gets to have an absolutely precious first kiss 🥰”
You walked by Cal as he sat on the couch reading an old book he’d found lying around. He looked to be unnaturally interested in it, seems that you may have to bring him back to reality for a moment.
“Hey there, Amaran.” You ruffled his hair and he gave you a smirk without looking away from the words of the page.
“I told you to stop calling me that.” Cal told you while shaking his head and leaning back to loosen up a bit, you chuckled at his reminder to you.
“Well, I didn’t wanna and I’m not gonna.” You sat next to him and looked over his shoulder. “You seem awfully interested in that book. Sure you don’t wanna hang out with me? I might be a little more fun.” You nudged him, Cal could feel his cheeks begin to blush.
“Yeah, yeah. I just want to read for now. I’ll hang out with you later.” He flipped his page and you frowned, leaving without another word. Maybe he didn’t like you the way you liked him? Maybe he didn’t like you at all...
Quite the contrary, Cal liked you a lot, he just didn’t know what to do with his feelings. He’d purposely been ignoring you because if he gave into his feelings, he’d be betrayed all of his teachings for you. He couldn’t throw out his upbringing for this, could he?
You had wandered back to your room where BD-1 was sitting on your bed, chirping as you walked in.
“No, he didn’t want to be around me.” You sighed as the door shut, BD let out another beep. “It doesn’t matter. He’s a Jedi after all.” BD beeped again. “Council or not, bud.” You sat beside the droid on your bunk and he crawled into your lap, trying to convice you that this wasn’t a lost cause, but he wouldn’t change a thing. “Now, don’t you go and tell Cal about this, okay. It’s between me and you, I’ll be fine.”
Meanwhile, Cal sat readinv the same page of this book over and over, he couldn’t seem to get his mind off of you. Your eyes, your smile, your laugh, your touch. There was nothing he didn’t like about you, but again, the Jedi Code was strict on having no attachments.
“Cere, can I ask you something?” Cal caught her attention as she passed through.
“Anything.” She nodded and turned her attention to the young Jedi.
“There’s something I want, but it betrays the ideals of the Jedi Code and I’m not sure if that’s something I’m willing to do...” He explained to his mentor. “It’s nothing to be concerned about, I just need to know if...if...”
“This is about y/n, is it?” Cere cocked an eyebrow and Cal got all red in the face again. “I’ll take that as a ‘yes.’” She chuckled and took a seat next to the redheaded boy. “The Jedi Code is no longer enforced by the Council, which means you’re free to make your own decisions. If you’d like to stick to the Code, you may, but you don’t have to. And if you are going to fight your feelings, I suggest talking to y/n about it before someone’s heart gets broken. Give it some thought.” She patted him on the shoulder and walked off to her previous task.
“Right...” Cal mumbled to himself, completely conflicted by Cere’s advice. But she was right, it was his choice on what to do with his future. And his future was just down the hall. Cal cast his book aside and marched to your room, giving a tap on the door and letting himself in to see BD-1 sitting on your stomach as you looked up.
“Oh, hey.” You waved while BD-1 let out an excited beep. “‘Scuse me, BD.” You let him hop off you before you sat up. “What’s up?”
“I wantedto talk to you.” He motioned to BD to give you two some space and his droid scattered out of the room, the door shut behind him. “Yeah, so, I know I’ve been a little distant lately...”
“You think?” You smiled and scooted over so he could sit next to you.
“Uh-huh,” Cal chuckled, “well, I thought about why I was being so distant and I realized it didn’t make any sense.” He shrugged while staring at the wall. “I like you, y/n, and it’s the first time I’ve felt this way with anyone. The Jedi Code says that I’m not allowed to like anyone, but who’s going to stop me?” Cal turned to you to see you beaming at him. “What?”
“I like you, too, Cal Kestis, and I’m glad you like me back.” You lifted a hand to his face and let him do the same, slowly closing the gap in between each of your lips before they met for the first time, only briefly.
“Sorry for before. But thank you for understanding.”
