Thinking about that scene in episode 15 after Dongsik and Joowon interrogated lcj and Joowon calls Hyuk to check where Jeongje is. Thinking specifically about how Dongsik asks who Joowon called and how Joowon describes Hyuk as "someone a lot like hkh / like a son to hkh".

I think it's such a compact yet perfect showcase of the ways Joowon detests what Hyuk stands for yet also can't let him go. He describes Hyuk as the likeliness of the man they're trying to take down and at the same time he still has Hyuk on speed dial to ask him for help the whole way through. It's brilliant

I need Joowon's manyang arc but like from Hyuk's perspective. Han Joowon who, for the past 10 years, has led a neat and rigid and organized life and who has never been a cause for trouble. And next thing Hyuk knows, Joowon is suddenly personally digging up skeletons, jumping into rivers, getting himself arrested on live tv, walking into crime scenes alone and coming out covered in blood, holding han kihwan at gunpoint.....the whiplash must be even stronger for someone who has known Joowon for so many years and suddenly he's just going completely off the rails.

Actually a pretty solid part of why I love beyond evil so much is exactly because it's not chalk full of unnecessary romance like a lot of media is. As an aroace myself I find it absolutely disheartening how often platonic bonds are completely overlooked because romance is that one big thing that matters so much more apparently. Yet beyond evil is sooooo full of platonic/familial depth and I adore it more than anything. I can hc pretty much any character to be somewhere on the ace spectrum and it would make sense and even just ignoring sexuality hcs in general, I just adore this show's direction. There is so much love of all kinds between these characters and it is SO great to see. Truly such a perfect show

I think the way Hyuk is always up in Joowon's personal space is so telling when it comes to their relationship. Han Joowon with his rigid boundaries on being touched and Hyuk who must be Very aware of this but keeps doing it anyway because he knows he can get away with it. And sometimes it bothers Joowon while other times he just lets it happen lol. It screams "I don't like when people do this and I might glare at you for it but I'm also not gonna actively stop you because I guess it's not so bad if it's you" and so Hyuk is always testing how much he can push those boundaries. And then just like with Dongsik there's of course that aspect where Jowoon is like "no touchy >:(" and then proceeds not to keep his own hands off Hyuk in return. It's great

I know I bring this scene up all the time, but Hyuk asking if Joowon sees him as family is just so loaded. Because Hyuk means it so genuinely but Joowon's only definition of family is using one another when beneficial followed by neglect/abuse once that use has been exceeded. And he doesn't want Hyuk to be that kind of person to him, so instead he tells Hyuk to cut himself off from the famiy while he still can. To protect Hyuk from them. Which just circles back to how Joowon does care about him and, if things were different, perhaps would have said yes to that question. Oh they make me sick

Honestly the funniest thing about Hyuk has to be the question of like. What the hell is he evening doing at this point? Look, I get it. 10 years ago it was a really smart idea to get involved with the Hans to score himself chances at success he wouldn't have had otherwise. But that was a decade ago. He's a fully fledged prosecutor with his own reputation to his name by now and, while I also agree that at least keeping his connection to the Hans upright can prove beneficial, does he really have to do that much still? Bro is FULLY invested in everything Kihwan and Joowon have going on girl you can do so much better than jumping at their every back and call I promise. Cutting himself off from hkh at the end of the show clearly isn't actually an issue for him anymore, my guy was just sticking around for the hell of it or what? Insane thing to do.

There's just something so utterly heartbreaking about how Joowon watched his mother be sent away — sometimes to different countries — time and time again and then, barely a few months after her passing, his father also sends him away. Before he probably even knows what's happening, he's 8 years old and being shipped halfway across the globe into a foreign country where he'll be even more alone than he already was. I know Han Kihwan is an absolutely despicable person in every way possible, but how the hell can you do that to a child? It makes me so fucking angry to think about. Joowon deserved so much better than that

OMG, a fellow Hyuk appreciator! Welcome back! 💕

Ah thank you!!! And yessss, I love Hyuk so much! The Beyond Evil characters are all so amazing but Hyuk is so underrated and I really have to say he has turned into one of my very favorites. Exploring more about him is just so much fun and I really want more people to grow to appreciate him because he's actually really complex even with his rather limited screentime. Hyuk enjoyers unite!!!

still think that scene where hyuk finally stands up against hkh for the first time is absolutely nuts. hyuk finally dropping the obedient act and hkh immediately switching from his civil act to essentially calling hyuk a peasant and slapping him across the face lmao. the sheer, ironic absurdity of joowon walking in moments later just to say "it looks like you two are family now". and the way this really couldn't be further from the truth generally speaking but also if you take joowon's perception of family then yeah. using one another and then throwing them away when they no longer work in your favor is pretty in line with what's going on after all. just crazy to me NOT TO MENTION that hkh was slapping hyuk around because hyuk was trying so hard to defend joowon. what a fucking mess this fucked up family triangle is.

joowon's outfits always give me gender envy and since i needed new winter attire anyway, I got myself a new coat in true Joowon style....liking the character isn't enough I need to BE him

I feel totally normal about the fact that Joowon rushed to bail Jeongje out of a (mental) hospital not just once but twice. There's this guy with mental health issues being sent away by his family less for his own well-being as the priority and more to not become an "inconvenience" to said family and— And Joowon sees this and suddenly he's 7 again seeing his mother for the last time and so he does everything not to be as powerless as he was then. Han Joowon, what are you doing? Why are you trying to atone for a death that has never been your fault? Your father's victims are not yours.
