the average life expectancy at age 70 is 15 years. fifteen years! when i am 70 i can tell you i am going to want every minute of every remaining year i can get because i’m not going to be anywhere near done thinking and talking and traveling and being with loved ones. it’s 2020, 70 is just not that fucking old any more

“okay but what about like an 85 year old” no. fuck you. the average life expectancy at age 85 is 6.5 years. (that’s not a discrepancy ... the longer you live, the likelier you are to be made of resilient stuff.) my father is 84, a bit creaky round the edges, got a few of those underlying conditions, but yanno he’s not fucking done yet either, he’s full of beans, and many many people would prefer him to stay that way

also the old people most likely to die aren’t rich boomers sitting on a shitload of wealth and privilege. the old people most likely to die are poor people, because they have less access to healthcare and are more likely to be working because they can’t afford to retire. you’re supporting the death of the 75-year-old checkout bagger at Walmart, not some rich eccentric who leaves her fortune to her cats.

This is the lovely head I’ve been waiting for! I’ve been in love with this head since Licht first posted teasers, and I finally took the plunge last month after finding the sculptor’s IG account!

Then I saw Souldoll re-released their Shiva, and I so wanted one, but I am cheap so I made my own four-armed doll out of my drawer of spare parts. I wanted to give Plant Boy another friend, and decided on luna moths as a species because they’re so cute and fluffy! I had been eyeing this gorgeous pair of wings on Etsy for at least a year, and snatched them up.

He’s nowhere near done, and needs some sprucing up, but I wanted to at least show him off ^_^

okay so I’ve seen a lot of artists,including myself, make this common mistake of coloring the palm of  a hand(and the sole of a foot) as the same color as the person’s skin tone.

but in fact ,palms and soles are a different color compare to our skin

this is due to the lack of Melanin on them

Imagine.

I lived in a room and board that failed the burrito test. (”If you’re not allowed to get up in the middle of the night to microwave a burrito, you live in an institution.”) No one stopped me from going to bed, but they did tell me I had to have my lights out by 10, and that I had to be out of the house by 10 the next morning. When I complained to my outpatient program that I needed more help than I was getting, they threatened me with board and care, where my cell phone would be taken away and I would lose contact with the outside world. My case manager sounded so damn smug, like he had caught me out, when he said, “if you’re really as helpless as you say, then you need to be in a board and care.” Like my only options were struggling to do things I couldn’t do, or surrendering my life to an institution.

When I tried to talk about these things with other people, they always rationalized it away. (I told my dad once that my caseworker was reading my e-mails as I wrote them, demonstrating extreme disrespect for my privacy, and he said, “Well, she’s probably making sure you don’t use the internet to goof off.” I was 22 years old.)

 People tend to mock the idea that telling an adult when to go to bed, when to eat, etc., is a human rights violation, even though they would find it outrageous and absurd if anyone came into their lives to do the same thing to them.

And this is what people seem to think when they tell disabled activists we’re just not disabled enough to understand that some people really do need to be locked up and deprived of all autonomy.
