Alright. I was.. inspired? Perhaps that’s not the correct word. (I’ll keep it to myself) by @thepiratehunter‘s ‘Javier as Pirate’ pic.
I blame lack of sleep, lack of coffee, and a wild previous crack story (you know who you are!) for what follows: MEA CULPA
It’s inevitable I fear. Through my spyglass I see the sails.
Black Sails.
‘Capitán!’ I call out in fear, grasping desperately at his sleeve as he appears at my side.
“Do not concern yourself, little Señorita. That m-. That pirate will not dare sail closer.” Salazar had almost called the other Captain a man.
“How strange,’ I whispered, keeping a trained eye on the figure standing tall at the wheel, his billowing black coat emanating a dangerous guise. “He.. if you will pardon me for saying so Capitán, looks very much like you!”
Salazar nodded and gripped at the gunwale, leaning forward as if he were about to leap into the water. “Si.”
I could see the hesitation in his eyes: The narrowing of them, recalling a past that was turning up old ghosts.
‘Have we stumbled upon some other universe? Perhaps if I return to the books the selkie guided us to I could find an answer.’
Armando Salazar turned and held his strong arm across my chest. “There is no need,” he said searching my face, wondering if I might keep the secret he wanted to reveal. Some of his men knew. Lesaro certainly.
But now, with those sails on the horizon there would be no more running. There was nowhere to hide.
‘You cannot mean -,’ I gulped, a cold shiver dancing over my arms.
‘Oh, but I do,’ Salazar assured me. ‘Primo Raymondo.’ He spit the pirate’s name out, stood tall and straightened his coat. ‘I always knew he would turn… Pirate.’
‘But I thought your cousin was a merchant? Roberto, the salsa man.’
Salazar brought my chin up with his hand. ‘That cousin, if you recall, has a fear of the seas. I made sure of that.’
Smiling, a mischievous flash sparking in his eyes, Salazar pulled me away from the impending meeting across the waves. ‘But now Señorita, I find myself ravenous. Perhaps you should not have spoken of …salsa.’
