Lizzy’s Guide to Ranks & Uniforms in the PotC Universe, Part 2
Here I will cover the Royal Marines, the distinctively redcoated soldiers of the King’s Navy. The marines have their own rank structure, separate from, though subordinate to the naval officers.

Lizzy’s Guide to Ranks & Uniforms in the PotC Universe, Part 1
Hello! This guide is the result of many, many hours spent watching the Pirates films, poring over them frame-by-frame, researching 18th century military history, and just generally being a massive nerd with far too much free time. I hope that other PotC fans find it to be informative, entertaining, and/or useful.
I will be focusing only on the first three films, as I don’t care nearly as much for 4 and 5, and they’re both a lot more inconsistent regarding ranks/uniforms. Also, I figure anyone who’ll be reading this is already quite familiar with Norrington’s uniforms, therefore I won’t be covering his.
A small disclaimer, I don’t know everything about the costume design process for the films, and some of this information is little more than educated guessing.
Reblogging because this is WONDERFUL and a very useful resource, for writers and anyone else in the POTC fandom! Thank you @flameandignite
“Being hailed as wonder boy. Probably a nine-days wonder, but nevertheless Fanny’s struck gold. Which is more than we can say for her brother. He wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Far too principled. Might just be the last straw. I’m afraid you’ll soon bee looking for a new tenant, Margaret.”
