La Viuda Marina: Character Inspiration Board
Well, in addition to my other commitments to An Idyll in Gunpowder, I’m also a multitasking idiot who can’t stay away from the opportunity to research the manners and customs of 1700s Spain - particularly if I get to write about damned Spanish Captains?
So with the dawn of my new piece La Viuda Marina, I’d like to introduce Senora Theresa Maria de Barros - a woman of intelligence and breeding recently widowed in Cadiz, who is shortly to journey to Saint-Martin.
I found this miniature that could plausibly be of 18th century mourning, and my goodness, this is just perfectly Theresa.
(okay, it’s from 1794 and so a bit out of the date range) but if POTC gets to have Herschel making telescopes for remote island colonies in 1751, then time and space are both irrelevant...)
