Amelie la Parapluie

@montmartre-parapluie / montmartre-parapluie.tumblr.com

The blog of a happy-go-lucky fashion history loving literature nerd. I love the 18th century, Turn: Washingtons Spies, Star Wars, superheroes, costuming and sewing... it's all good.

I think this one is best summed up with ....

...since my last update, but here it is! The continuing adventures of Lizzie Lowndes!

Sadly, no Simcoe in this chapter, as Anna is left struggling with the tragic aftermath of her husbands death. But the Lieutenant is lurking, as always, hopefully  waving a sheaf of poetry in Lizzie’s direction...

November 1799 portrait of Thomas Jefferson by Charles Peale Polk.

This is the ugliest thing I’ve seen in my life.

I’m crying. He also painted these:

That little girl is S H O O K

@montmartre-parapluie, is this what Mr Lowndes paints when he’s trying to finish up and get back to the bar?

You’re far too charitable, @snapdragonroar ! depending on how much alcohol/how bad the shakes are, I see Mr Lowndes’ work looking more like this:

Truly, worth every penny of Twenty Guineas, amirite?

Apologies for the  awfully long break in between chapters! I hope this makes up for it - the long awaited ‘Anna and Hewlett’ meeting  - over the body of her extremely late husband.

No Simcoe, I’m afraid, this chapter - but there is Kennock earning his merit badge for 18th Century Pathology - which I know @calamity-bean will be pleased to hear.

WIP writing...

When you’re writing what was going to be a straightfoward ‘Hewlett turns detective’ scene, and it turns into a “meet-cute” shot of fiesty Annlett - right over the still cooling body of her husband.

Ah, romance. Also I appear to not be over Season 4. Next Chapter of  An Idyll in Gunpowder should be interesting!

@entropy345, @calamity-bean, @badsurfer - I hope this meets with your approval?

A Genteel Introduction: A Turn: Washington Spies Drabble (Idyll in Gunpowder Universe)

 The ever-talented @mercurygray and myself absolutely loved Lola in episode 7 of Turn. She’s smart, beautiful, emotionally intelligent and clearly deserves a spot on Harlots in a fancy brothel with a good storyline and character development - rather than a bit-part and a tent in Holy Ground. Which got us both thinking - What would Lola make of a certain paintbrush-wielding dork I write about? So we both had a very enjoyable tag team writing session which resulted in this. All credit to  @mercurygray for being awesome and writing with me.

There’s a few tiny future Idyll plotline spoilers in here, but nothing major...

A Murder In Progress

Oh, Selah. Selah, Selah, Selah. *shakes head sorrowfully* Where do I even begin?

I am so, so sorry it had to come to this. I liked you! You were so nicely snarky back in Season 1 when we first saw you mocking Abe’s incompetent cabbage farming. If we’d seen a little more of you in any other season, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation right now.

But you see, dear - Hewlett happened, whilst you were away. And  I’m deeply sorry for it, but he’s just more interesting, as a character. More fun to write, more layered - and, much more importantly, more respectful of Anna’s abilities and daring.

But on the bright side, I’m saving you the Jersey! All that Season 1 suffering and punishment. It’s better this way, darling. Really. I’m giving you the dignity of an actual exit, rather than just forgetting about you for two or three seasons. Off you go... to the great Congress in the sky.

16.) If I could write only one pairing for the rest of my life? Oh jeez, probably (definitely) Hewlett and Simcoe. Not in a romantic context of course, but I tend to think that love while all well and good, is not always the epitome of relationship status and not always the best to tell every story.

29.) If I could write the sequel or prequel to any fic not written by me? Dead tie between finishing @calamity-bean ’s LOA prequel / Thanksgiving fic and investing myself in every SECOND of Lizzy’s life prequel, sequel, both (I want @montmartre-parapluie ’s Idyll to update weekly and I never want it to end. A high demand for a fic that I can’t possibly praise highly enough.) Naturally I would not be able to do either justice, so … ladies? ❤

Thanks for the ask!

OMG @tavsancuk is far too kind and flattering a friend! I... genuinely don’t know what to say to this, it’s so kind!! (also, lies and slander, i’d be interested to see your take on Lizzie and her adventures) I may not be able to step up to the weekly update request, but a new chapter is coming soon to an AO3 website near you. Just as soon as I figure out who killed Selah Strong....

And... Chapter 15 is finally up!  Apologies for taking so long, but I have an excuse -this is longer than my normal chapters, which tend to be a quick 5000-7000 at the most. This behemoth stretched out into 10,068 words because I wanted to make characters (any myself, apparently) really suffer this time around. Ridiculous fluff and angst abounds. Enjoy
