Sometimes I remember that Ludinus' entire plan hinged on the love between two people who were ripped apart by fate for more than 30 years. Somehow he knew that, when it came down to it, not even Vax's transformation into a servant of the gods would prevent him from loving Keyleth of the Air Ashari. No amount of removal of his personhood, or distance from the person he used to be could snuff that out and prevent him from breaking the non-interference accords to be there when she was in danger. Their love was always going to be doomed by the narrative, and in the end it doomed the narrative too. Everyone talks about Delilah and her willingness to rip the world apart for love, but for Vax it wasn't even really will anymore, just the inevitability of all that was left of him other than the Champion.

Okay so AU where at the end of C1 Vax and Keyleth go to live in Zephrah as a happy pair who help the Ashari. They have a beautiful wedding under the trees with music playing; they have a nice home, not big but not small, with a lot of greens and browns on the exterior and colourful yet neutral things inside; they’d be so happy.

Though in this AU, what if, while Keyleth is doing her work as the Tempest, she meets a young halfling child who’s busy trying to get into the sword collection? She’d stop him, of course, but would eagerly introduce her husband to this adorable child and his interest in fighting despite being a foot tall. What if they found out that he’s five, his parents have left or died… what if they adopted him, and he grew up to be the Orym we know in EXU and C3?

Imagine though… small Orym who clings to Vax and begs him to teach him how to spar. He’d accompany Keyleth to meetings and visits, oftentimes on her shoulders or in her arms. Uncle Grog gets him his first (toy) weapon. Aunt Vex and Uncle Percy visit often and bring his cousins, who he gets along with so well. Aunt Pike and Uncle Scanlan’s kids hang out with him a lot and they’d play with toy swords until it’s time for dinner.

Just like. Orym growing up loved, and Keyleth and Vax having this perfect life in a happy place to live, with a beautiful home and a kid who just wants to learn. Yeah
