trick or treat! what are katniss and peeta's favorite fall activities?
Ooooh Peeta likes to bake all the tasty fall things, mainly because he likes watching Katniss eat all the fall things he’s baked. They’re both super into cuddling up together under a blanket with a mug of something warm to drink on a cold night. A lot of times, they do this on the porch, sometimes inside on the couch. Hiking through the woods to see the leaves change. I also really love the idea of them having a couple of apple trees post war. They love picking the apples in the fall. Peeta bakes apple everything, Katniss loves making cooked apples, fresh apple cider, and apple pomanders with dried cloves. They give the excess apples to their neighbors, and sometimes they picnic in the shade of the trees with hot cocoa and whatever fresh apple treat Peeta has made.

There’s a prosthetic company in our city that is very involved in the community. They sponsor all sorts of events and at their booth they hand out candy and promotional materials from the socket of a prosthetic.

Still, he had wanted to be sure, so he had found a way of casually asking the housekeeper whose room this had once been. Miss Anne, she had said. His stomach had gone more sour than the first time he’d been to sea as a boy. He had stayed away from the room as long as he could, convincing his brother-in-law to stay up very late playing billiards and drinking with him, but eventually the admiral had said he needed to be off to see his wife, and left Frederick alone. He’d scowled at himself and gathered his courage and marched himself back to her room. And now here he was, in the middle of the night, staring at her bed. He was expected to sleep in Anne’s very bed. He ought to have been used to it by now, he thought bitterly, for he ought to have been sleeping in her bed for the last eight years, beside her, as her husband. Instead, he had slept every one of those nights those last eight years alone. Bitterness began to dull into the sorrow of loss, then ball itself up into a knot in his throat. He tried to swallow against it, but it grew larger and more painful with his resistance. He gasped in a breath, then released it in a low shuddering cry. His hands flew to cover his face, blocking out the view of the bed and catching his tears as his shoulders shook with his weeping.
Who doesn't love a man crying, what a treat, right?? (Sorry I am very low on supplies of anything fun in my WIPs at the moment!)

Nemesis turned 6 months old on Monday! She is now a tween/teen and developing the attitude to match! She didn't purr thank-you for her breakfast two days in a row, but she did this morning, so maybe not all is lost.
She also chooses some interesting places or uncomfortable looking poses to sleep in! But she seems to sleep, so it must not be as bad as it looks!
Does this satisfy your children enough for me to humbly claim my treat?

book recommendation: the nightingale by kristin hannah. i just started reading it and one of the main characters and her husband low-key remind me of everlark. it's incredibly interesting, the prose is super pretty and it's historical fiction set in world war ii era france.

Haymitch is not Katniss and Peeta’s father. He’s not their uncle, he’s not their child - but never the less he’s family
In Catching Fire Katniss says:
The liquor isn't for my family. It's for Haymitch, who acted as mentor for Peeta and me in the Games. He's surly, violent, and drunk most of the time. But he did his job - more than his job because for the first time in history, two tributes were allowed to win. So no matter who Haymitch is, I owe him, too. And that's for always.
He’s part of the ‘always’ pact in his own way
One of the first things I ever wrote was a Haymitch POV one-shot Haunted House which featured a favorite HC - Haymitch’s super power is miffing them off, but it’s often used for good!
Somehow I end up on the receiving end of their complaints about each other. At least until I piss them off enough to send them running back to the other. That’s my specialty: creating a common enemy in myself to unite them.
