(A Jane Austen’s Emma/THG AU in which Prim is Emma, Peeta/Katniss are John/Isabella, making Peeta’s eldest brother George Knightly.)
“Next you will claim you orchestrated the match between your sister and my brother.”
She smirks, tilting her chin, “I did and I shall.”
He leans back as he laughs, “No. I allow you many liberties, but not that. Anyone who’s laid eyes on the pair can see they would have happened anyway. She could have been queen of Panem and he a stablehand, and they would have waged wars for one another. No, I will not allow you to take credit for that match.”
“I fear you underestimate my sister’s stubbornness. Besides I do not need your assent, I'm content enough in my own convictions. I had much to contend with, you know. Those trips abroad you insisted your brother take. They would have been married years ago if it were not for you.”
“Ah yes, those trips where he studied the masters, strengthened his craft, and gained notoriety enabling him to settle so young. Are those the holidays you speak of? Yes, you’re right, ill advised indeed.”
There’s a guffaw from the other side of the room and Mr. Abernathy folds his paper. “If you two are quite finished tormenting each other, perhaps we might have some music.”
