Only a few seconds after waking and he’s already trying to chat her up
I mourn the platonic Everdair shenanigans the world lost
Thinking about Finnick and Annie’s first Post-War visit to 12
- They all hike to the lake. Finnick challenges Katniss to all sorts of swimming/water competitions (which really isn’t fair, but Katniss assumes Finnick’s out of practice because of the baby.) Finnick beats her soundly, until the baby falls asleep and Annie gets in to show them all up.
- Buttercup loves Annie. He hops on her lap, purring at a comical volume as he snuggles her after the baby goes down for bed
- Katniss catches Finnick moving the spices and utensils in Peeta’s meticulously organized kitchen anytime Peeta isn’t looking. She surprises him by joining in on the fun - drawing the line when Finnick suggests switching the salt and sugar canisters. (Peeta is immediately suspicious because Katniss can’t keep a straight face as he searched for the whisk that was ‘just right there’)
- At meals, Peeta always offers to hold the baby so Annie and Finnick can have an uninterrupted meal.
- Katniss is worried about what to talk to Annie about when they’re left alone, but realized that they can comfortably sit in companionable silence.
- They find a box in the basement of useless capital decor that came with the house. Finnick suggests they would make good target practice. He tosses them in the air so Katniss can shoot them down. Haymitch watches from his porch. Peeta puts down a tarp to catch the ceramic shards with the thought of attempting a mosaic later.
- Annie teaches Peeta to knit. He picks it up quickly but his gauge/tension is off: his first hat is too small for the baby, but Finnick determines it’s the perfect size for a goose and chases one of Haymitch’s around the yard to prove it.
- Finnick straps the baby to his back and he and Katniss go for a walk in the woods so Annie can nap while Peeta is at the bakery. They come home with pails of too many blueberries because it turned into a competition of who could pick the most.

Couldn’t stop thinking about @rarepairheathen’s ask about a song to make a fic out of - so, inspired by Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson…
She wakes to the smell of rain. The cool breeze dancing in through the open window, a welcome reprieve from the heat wave of the past week. The quilt that’s sat folded at the end of their bed, just-in-case, has found its purpose in the night, tucked up around her chin.
Cocooned in the warmth of blankets and Peeta, she has the urge to lie like this all day... It’s a different feeling; wanting to stay cuddled in the embrace of bed and lover, rather than trapped prisoner to the mattress by the misery in her mind.
Why shouldn’t she indulge this impulse?
Lifting her head, she checks the clock by the bed; the alarm should ring any moment. Carefully extracting her arm from Peeta’s chest, she reaches across the distance, switching the clock off before it trills. Despite her stealth, he stirs beneath her.
She halts her movements and instead begins to softly hum; not a song, just a meandering, nonsensical tune. Peeta’s breathing evens back out, his lips turning up ever so slightly.
She smiles to herself; she’s still not above playing dirty. Resettling back into his embrace, she closes her eyes and drifts back to sleep.
Favourite sound
Sometimes it wasn’t flashbacks, but Peeta would stare off into space with a distant expression. Katniss wouldn’t say anything, wouldn’t try and pull him back with words. She’d hold fast to him, a familiar hand on his shoulder, arms around his waist, as they both stood there, waiting until he eased back into his mind and came back to her and the kids.

She doesn’t bother knocking (they never do) as she lets herself into Peeta’s home. He's standing at the kitchen sink, unaware of her presence; She pauses in the entryway to admire him; The sunlight glinting off his golden waves. It’s been several months since his return. Between her hunting, his baking, and Haymitch’s eggs, they’ve all put on weight; She could even swear he’s grown a couple inches.
He looks so healthy and beautiful.
Long soaks in the evenings, peeta adding herbs in their bath that he studied from the Everdeen’s plant book to help relax katniss’ sore muscles when hunting days were long, exploring each others body under bubbles and giggles, kissing scars and sensitive places with teeth and tongue
”I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it for ever”.
Trick or treat 🧙🏻♀️😈🎃
How do you think Haymitch would feel about Halloween (assuming that they had it in District 12)? Would he hand out candy, or turn all his lights off until it’s over?
And if you’re interested in a prompt I would LOVE to read about the three District 12 victors spending Halloween together post-Mockingjay
Happy Halloween!! Thanks for stopping by! Here’s some 🍭 🍫🍬
I really wanted this to be a fic, but i couldn’t wrangle it the way I had hoped, so please accept this mood board and concept
- (A bunch of people have already discussed this, but here’s my version) Some years after the War, the government starts putting out ‘Heritage’ propos where they dig up old traditions of yesteryears and reimagine them into ‘modern’ times - Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch were approached to star in some of these but refused. (Haymitch eventually ‘takes one for the team’ and does a segment to keep Plutarch from pushing the issue. (I have such a vision for what this looks like and it is so absurd))
- The Fall Fest that’s an amalgamation of Fall Harvest, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Michaelmas.
- They reintroduction the idea of trick or treating and the first year or two send candy to each District’s Justice building to distribute to the local businesses to get the tradition up and running.
- Katniss is… weary.
- They run segments on creating your own costumes for everyday items. The ideas are tame - After the games and the war, no one really has a taste for children in horror costumes, it’s mostly just kids dressed as occupations or animals
- some of the braver children approach Katniss to see if she’ll lend them deer sheds to complete their costumes - she can’t resist and helps anyone who asks. When one of the children mentions that she plans to dress up as a dog, Katniss starts having nightmares about the tribute mutts and begins to have concerns about her and Peeta’s reactions to festivities.
- They discuss and decide they shouldn’t participate - at least not this year and plan to spend the weekend at the cabin. Peeta suggests they invite Haymitch too and assuming he’ll decline, she does so flippantly.
- Haymitch surprises her and accepts. A morning of Trick or treating, the three Victors of District 12 make their way to the lake - it takes significantly longer with Haymitch tagging along.
- From there I picture the snuggest, most rustic little fall camping trip: sweaters, blankets, Fires, naps, card games, warm beverages and meals cooked over the fire. Just the tree of them with no responsibilities, good naturedly teasing each other, warm, and content
The forest was always singing
it felt like coming home
At this point, Katniss could barely tell them apart
After the war, Katniss and Peeta strip their homes of all the frivolous capital decor. The useless articles are boxed in the basement - they’re too pointless even to donate.
During one of her visits, chaos queen, Johanna is riffling through their basement (because why not) and finds the boxes. She hauls them upstairs setting the canvases up for target practice and teaches Katniss and Peeta the art of ax throwing.
Haymitch sits on his porch, ‘supervising’, suppling the liquor, and donating to their loot.
When those are thoroughly destroyed, they begin launching the ceramics as target practice for Katniss; Tossing multiple in the air at a time to see how many she can hit at once.
When their cathartic destruction is complete, Peeta collects the discarded shards of pottery to make mosaics.
As they sorted through their houses they were very conscious of what could be reused or repurposed and what was a useless (for lack of a better word) trinket.
So now imagine all the little District 12 children dressed in clothes made from Katniss and Peeta’s donated curtains.
