Yes!! That’s me. I have so many ideas about it in my drafts I just can’t figure out how to tackle it….
At one point I thought about making it a sort of two shot - one from Peeta’s POV as he quits and leaves Victor’s Village/District 12 and the other Katniss’s POV when she runs off to find him…
But the longer I sit on it the more ambitious the idea gets.
Maybe tell it the whole way through from the beginning and maybe in this AU Katniss Prim lived and there was no final hunger games vote so Katniss never killed Coin… And so as we’re Everlarking through the story, tensions are building until Coin gives Katniss an ultimatum about supporting her, prompting Katniss, Peeta, and the kids to flee over the mountains?…

He pulls the last tray of rolls out of the oven before checking the clock: 5am. Peeta’s no stranger to early morning baking, all those years growing up in the bakery, but not like this. He’s been up for nearly twenty four hours at this point and stress baking for the last eight.
He turns off the oven and slumps against the counter, wondering how he’d gotten here.

Ooo so my drafts are full of half started ideas that I plan to write, but one that pops into my head often is the Sound of Music Inspired AU - Peeta was never reaped and Katniss was the sole Victor of the 74th games and the Mockingjay.
Post War Katniss becomes the guardian of Rue’s siblings and Effie takes it upon herself to hire her a nanny - enter Peeta Mellark

It had started in the middle of the night. When they’d begun sharing a bed and she’d wake from a nightmare, he’d hold her, cooing soothing words until they’d pass. After a few weeks like this, he’d started to punctuate the episodes with a small kiss at her temple or hairline as they’d settle back into sleep. Then one night when he had gone to kiss her forehead, she had tilted her head back to meet his lips.
What started in the dark, began to creep into the day until it was part of their daily routine. A press of lips at dawn, a welcome home peck midmorning, stolen kisses during meal prep, leading to the latest addition, the increasingly heated make-out sessions before bed when they’d sprawl out on the couch, bodies pressed close. Despite the eager rocking of their hips and tentative touches over clothes, they were taking things slow.
Then something interesting happened.

I’m guessing we’re talking about when Coin sends Peeta to join Squad 451?
I guess I could see it going either way since Jackson originally hadn’t put Katniss on the watch rotation but Boggs approved it even after Katniss’s ‘mutt’ comment

Haymitch is not Katniss and Peeta’s father. He’s not their uncle, he’s not their child - but never the less he’s family
In Catching Fire Katniss says:
The liquor isn't for my family. It's for Haymitch, who acted as mentor for Peeta and me in the Games. He's surly, violent, and drunk most of the time. But he did his job - more than his job because for the first time in history, two tributes were allowed to win. So no matter who Haymitch is, I owe him, too. And that's for always.
He’s part of the ‘always’ pact in his own way
One of the first things I ever wrote was a Haymitch POV one-shot Haunted House which featured a favorite HC - Haymitch’s super power is miffing them off, but it’s often used for good!
Somehow I end up on the receiving end of their complaints about each other. At least until I piss them off enough to send them running back to the other. That’s my specialty: creating a common enemy in myself to unite them.
