General commentary:

In AUs I like to make a point to have Katniss recognize Peeta’s kindness before anything else - at 11, he’s just the baker’s son whose name she doesn’t know, but after the bread, he’s Peeta, 2nd place wrestling champ, the stocky boy who she watches throw bags of flour.

Likewise, for Peeta there’s an air of mystique around Katniss... He was intrigued because his father pointed her out and told him a fairytale-esque story. Then he heard her sing and he was a goner.

While they find each other attractive, it’s not the first thing either notices about the other.

Some thoughts from the THG Canon Compliant(ish) series

Haunted House was one of my first fics and it’s the one I’m the most self conscious about. Maybe one day I’ll go back and rework it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Full had an intro that I ended up not using. It was Katniss’s POV

I’m not sure if this is a directors cut or what it would be considered, but I’ve been thinking about the first lightning storm in District 12 Post War.

All three of the Victors alone in their homes - anxious and worried about how the others are handling… I imagine Katniss and Haymitch both, separately ‘checking in’ on Peeta and end up riding the storm out together at his house. After the first time there is an unspoken rule that they spend storms together where they can know they’re all safe.

So I have a sequel planned for In Our Favor - it would take place ~3 years later and center around Prim’s first season.

I don’t have a good grasp of who Prim is in canon so I usually cast her as a daydreamer and romantic. This is a note from my doc:

Annie was Prim’s Governess and had her life planned out for after Prim came of age, but those plans went *tragically* wrong. So now she’ll be accompanying Prim to the Capital in hopes of finding a new position.

I think chapters will flip between Prim and Finnick’s POV (established Everlark in the background)

Okay so The Odds is maybe the biggest labor of love. I have so many ideas and I don’t know how I’ll do them all justice or fit them all together… on top of that: I made a style choice with the faux regency language and I now feel like I have to continue that way for consistency so progress is slow.

The original plan was the first chapter of In Our Favor would be a stand alone… I was gonna pull a “we grow together” stunt and do a time jump to them happily together in the next story within the series… but then I wrote a second chapter and now I’m trying to figure out how to make them fall in love without it being boring or manufacturing false conflict… idk… I’m open to suggestions.

I might start the sequel before I complete the original 😬It would focus on Prim and Odesta… I sort of had Emma (Jane Austen) in mind when I came up with the idea… but not in a way that will be recognizable to anyone but me. 😛

Then I have a Johanna origin story half written that is… pretty angsty. I wanted something that paralleled her Canon story, but my version focuses more on her vulnerability under the fierce facade… We’ll see!

So about Lake Glass…

I have a little sea glass collection from childhood beach trips. There’s something so satisfying in finding a piece!

On a nerdy note: it’s sort of like anomaly detection: the beach we would go to was mostly sand, but then there were strips of the heavier beach material: rocks, seashells, driftwood, seaweed. The most common sea glass is white, green, and brown, which can blend in with the other stuff… except that glass is man made and sort of pops out if you are looking for it!

I’ve also found tumbled glass on smallish lakes (though it’s harder to find the real stuff) so I decided if anyone could find it, it would be Barney. From there I was pretty proud of the parallel between Valancy and the glass!
