In the illustration, why is Peeta not blonde and wavy? At least he's taller. But not stocky. Or is it because they're starving in there.

I think part of his build is that he's lost a lot of weight being in the Games. In this one he looks a bit more broad-shouldered:

Not anything super stocky, but closer. His hair also looks more styled here, more wavy. Could be that the sticking up of it in the cave and berry scene is from not washing. I don't have my copy yet, but that's what I'm getting from the pictures I've seen online!

What do the rest of you think?

For example, if you're speaking to a receptionist at a medical practice or calling idk your insurance company

I was going to specify "the first time" but then I realized I'm actually more likely to spell my name automatically if I know they're looking it up in a set of records

"Con c, doble l, e i latina."

My mantra at Starbucks.

Considering I've had my medical records misfiled because they reversed half of my surname to make it sound more English, yes, I always spell my name.

so….. I found some drafts from the past that are actually really good and fun. I currently have 3 unfinished fanfics on my ao3 and I'm starting to feel guilty for leaving so many things unfinished, but I don't see any reason not to post something that is good.

I still have plans to finish my fanfics obviously, but I don't want to start more and more projects and never finish any of them…

What do you guys do in particular? Do you leave your drafts forgotten in your files until they're complete or do you post them even without knowing when you'll finish to write.

also I'm particularly nervous about this fanfic because it starts with a Everthorne scene hehe and I know people can have very strong feelings about Gale and Katnis lol.

and also need a name but anyway….

hope you don’t mind me asking, but what version of the hunger games audiobook were you listening to? I know there’s a version narrated by Tatiana Maslany, who’s an actor I love, so I was really looking forward to doing a reread/listen to her versions at some point, but if she doesn’t do peeta justice, I might give it a pass

sadly, it was her.

she does a really, really good job with every other character. everyone else has emotion and personality.

but her peeta was so bland. it was starting to make me angry at the end of my listen.

it made me, a hardcore for-life peeta adorer, think 'what is the appeal with this guy.'

Maysilee Donner and Her Pin: An Analysis (100 Followers Gift)

Intro

So it seems my rampant Sunrise on the Reaping posting has pushed my follower count into the triple digits! To celebrate and show my gratitude, I wanted to do something extra special. And with Sunrise on the Reaping making me hyperfocus on Maysilee harder than ever before, I thought what better topic to discuss than the long debated fandom question: Did Maysilee wear the mockingjay pin in the arena?

I do hope SOTR offers some clarity because I've always been on the fence about this, lol. so this isn't me refuting or agreeing, just pointing out some things to add to the discussion:

  • Madge wants Katniss to wear the pin specifically in the arena, rather than just "show Haymitch this" - so maybe she wants it on television more so than anything? to send a message? (see: ???)
  • Haymitch had to be convinced Katniss and Peeta were both fighters before he stepped up, and he'd already seen Katniss with the pin by that point (while very drunk, mind you) - but that's something Katniss could've/should've noted when he's assessing her, that he notices the pin? if it's something SC wanted to imply and leave us to speculate until the reveal in CF? (see again: ???)

For that fic I was working on I looked up the health consequences of getting struck by lightning and there just isn’t that much?? Like allegedly most ppl walk away from it completely fine apart from some pretty painful burns. It’s supposedly worse to be standing right next to a spot that gets struck because then you get sucker punched with pure energy, if you yourself are stuck you sort of kind of faint. Like not everyone loses consciousness, it’s supposedly just very confusing.

Everything after had been a blur.

He was able to obtain the details from Lord Abernathy as Katniss wept; Graham had complained of a headache and retired to bed before his evening appointment, but when they had gone to rouse him, he’d never woken. The doctor had been fetched but it was too late: Aruliaus had suggested an aneurysm.

WIP Wednesday: what was the last line you wrote on a WIP.

Omg! What a week! I hope you’ll forgive that it’s no longer Wednesday 😘

You’ve never been in trouble, right? Caught at the slagheap or drinking by the tracks?”

I forgot that both Boldwood and Gabriel know the name of Fanny Robin’s soldier.

Honestly, I wasn't happy Gabriel had Boldwood read the letter when Fanny was being secretive about it.

I don’t really know how to feel about it.

I was conflicted when Gabriel didn’t tell anyone that he’d seen her the night he arrived and they were all looking for her, but now it doesn’t stir quite right either.

I can see why Gabriel let Boldwood see it - it wasn’t like he gave the letter to Jan Coggan. Fanny doesn’t have any family or friends - Boldwood watched out with her to an extent and having this information he might reasonably do something for her now… maybe/maybe not - either way Boldwood preoccupied with his secret Valentine lover.

I don’t know… maybe the point is that all the men in the story let her down in one way or another 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wouldn't Bathsheba be the one to step in since Fanny worked for her? Though a young female farmer at the time might have not been seen as capable, it seemed like it would affect her/her reputation the most and so she would care to do what could be done.

But I guess that's just more period typical sexism.
