Imagine you and your best friend were two grains of sand and you had to be in the hourglass and your bestie had to be the glass. Ur together but youve never been more apart. I think it's cute how so many art movements are simply called "new art" to differentiate "not like the old stuff". Contemporary dance. New wave fashion. Pop (literally popular) music. Art Nouveau. Modernism. Postmodernism. Even terms starting with neo- (neo-classicism, neo-expressionism) all are just saying NEW ART. And yet all of these things are now distinctive styles of the past. It's kind of beautiful how humanity never stops outgrowing itself. Art is a state of matter that refuses to sit still, old as soon as it is new, original upon its thousandth performance, new forever so long as there is someone who has not yet seen it, and old the second the artist picks up their instrument again.

"how can you be blogging about fun stuff while this horrible thing is going on?"

there's always horrible things going on somewhere. if you refuse to calm down until it all stops, all you'll do is give yourself a stroke

Fun is how you put yourself back together to face the horrors. And with skill, fun can be how you unpick the horrors as they try to horrify you.

It's maintenance. You change the oil on a car so it drives smoothly. You play to keep your soul intact.

Is there anything you’ve been struck by on your current Anne reread?

Avatar

Ok so I read all the Anne books back in 5th grade through middle school, but the only ones I've re-read is AOGG and AOI. This is my first time re-reading AOA and when I first read it, I thought it was not as interesting as the ones it was in-between. However, now having more life experience under my belt, I am LOVING it nearly as much as the other two! I can now relate a lot more to Anne being a teacher, working with kids, and trying to work with her community to improve it and being met with set-backs and resistance. The part where she goes to confess about sell Mr. Harrison's cow rather than her own was something I deal with a lot now, in that I have to have difficult conversations with people and anticipate a poor response, but a lot of the time, people appreciate the honesty and will work through things with you if you approach it in a productive way.

However, I do still find Davy way too annoying, Dora not explored enough in favor of Davy getting all of the stories, and Paul is just...boring so far (I remember he has some subplot with his dad and his dad's ex getting together or something so maybe he gets better then?). Also I know language was different, but the way Anne talks about Paul, I think if they met when they were older/he was her age she might have married him over Gilbert. Is that sacrilege to say? Definitely not saying I'd prefer it, but Paul is kind of similar Roy in that beautiful, sensitive way, but with Anne's genuine affection and kindred-spiritness that Roy lacked.

So yeah in general I'm just surprised by how much I like AOA so far! What about you? (besides the purple pills)

Anonymous asked:

How would you rank your stories based on their level of fluffiness (with the least amount of angst)?

So I don’t know that I have any In-Panem stories that are fluff, but the least angsty are probably:

As for modern day AU, there are a ton of them, but here are the top 5 based on stats:

if iphones existed in panem, there's no way peeta wouldn't have a running list of things said by katniss and haymitch in his notes app

GLAD YOU ASKED

here's my contribution

this is the one Peeta sends in a group chat with the other victors like "guess which is which. no they're not all haymitch"

another mixed bag to the gc from Peeta. he gives them some freebies this time.

@atleastmymomlikesme Beetee 'emphasizes' this one and then continues to leave them on read

Oh oh oh! I’d love to see some The Blue Castle mood boards!

@batrachised - you said goofy and I thought: what about a depressing Valancy bedroom mood board….

I only got as far as the rug:

okay I'm adding: I chose the shell covered box made by cousin stickles in her mythical girlhood, take your pick

@daydreamingandprocrastination I nominate you to add something now, if you so wish!

Thanks for tagging me!

In keeping with the Victorian craft theme and in honor of Cousin Stickles hair broach, I’m adding more Victorian hair art:

I nominate @sheet-metal-memories to add something if you’d like!

Obviously I had to go with Cousin Stickles’s old repulsive jar of dusty, dead potpourri. Valancy’s symbolic breaking of the jar is one of my favorite parts from the early chapters of the book!

It’s very hard to find pictures of potpourri which aren’t pretty! But I tried my best! Just imagine it smashing into a million pieces when she throws it out the window!!

To keep up the game I’m tagging @akallabeth-joie if you’d like to join!!

"the brown paper lambrequin with purple roses on it"

had to look up what that even is, apparently its a valance but could either be on a window or a shelf

Also had to see if I could find "beautiful, smug, self-satisfied queen louise" coming down a stairway

Adding:

The dustpile

Valancy’s hairstyle

Rain on a certain May morning

The red wallpaper

The yellow-painted floor (wtf who does that?!)

The missing teaspoon

Take your pick

I like the first for the listing (someone generations later selling the spoons and still pissed about the lost one) but the second one looks to be actually tea spoons.

was just thinking about this dumb guide that a conservative guy posted on twitter that seems to outline the difference between good and bad art - it's a completely useless heuristic obviously and it doesn't even make sense in the inverse. However there are several turns of phrase here that have permanently lodged themselves into my brain, for example - "malevolently bad map," "enfeebles the mind," "whining, coping, seething, and a waste of time," "mocks the concept of values"

who up mocking the concept of values rn
