In Addressing Spirit Quest

Y’all out here pretending like Splinter looked at Leo’s broken leg and told him to "get over it”

When what actually happened was that Splinter told Leonardo he was letting his fixation on his injury (which was completely healed at this point fyi) hold him back.

Could he have done it more warmly and coherently? Yes. But Leo clearly found strength in his father’s words to face his fear and overcome his trauma

so get out of here with your lies and slander.

The Cupboard Game pt. 10

AU in which Splinter evaded the contents of the mutagen canister and ended up raising the turtles as a human.

No real warnings apply. Mostly family fluff/action-adventure with a teeny hint of angst.

None of the stolen keys looked like they would fit the lock. Splinter felt he should’ve expected that much, but luckily the cage was held shut with a simple padlock, which he knew he could easily undo with the pick he had the forethought to carry with him. He kneeled down and went to work, the trapped turtles rambling on about an ugly man and his weird friends. They asked questions of why and how, to all of which Splinter answered with requests for silence “I told you, I’ll explain later” he whispered, working to undo the cogs as quickly and efficiently as he could.

Things I Enjoyed about the Future Arc

***spoilers below***

  • Donatello and Raphael have some really good interactions
  • The drag race beatdown explosion fest complete with on-screen death was loads of fun
  • Though the designs of the other three brothers are offputting (hair and fingernails were NOT a good idea) Robo-Donnie is honestly one of the coolest designs to appear on the show
  • Donatello in general was a beautiful ball of sass and I love him
  • The vehicle designs/weapon designs were cool
  • Mira, for her brief appearance, was great character. I expected to find her annoying but instead I kind of wish she had been in other episodes
  • RAPHAEL IS SUCH A DAD ONCE HE GETS ATTACHED
  • Michelangelo’s history as a mystic who discovered the oasis before going completely nuts is kinda cool
  • Mike as the official caretaker of Chompy and Icecream Kitty (fun fact: he does a wonderful job)
  • “Hey Chompy look! It’s your dad Raph!”
  • Icecream Kitty is a confirmed immortal who spends most of this episode manning a machine gun
  • Michelangelo riding Chompy into battle
  • The gladiator scene
  • Leonardo’s reveal legitimately took me off guard... also he’s got the coolest vehicle I’ve ever seen. Casey would probably cry if he saw it
  • Speaking of Casey, you know getting his skull turned into a self destruct button for an enormous bomb that goes off while Raphael says his catchphrase in a dramatic fashion was exactly what Casey Jones’s would have wanted
  • The Leo group hug
  • The fact that it ended on a somewhat uplifting note with all the brothers united and hope for the planet renewed
  • THE FINAL HEARTBREAKING FIFTEEN SECONDS

What she says: I’m fine

What she means: WTF happened to Splinter in Darkest Plight? What kind of emotional problems is he suppressing in order to have a hallucination that specific, vivid, and horrifying? Victor Falco said that he was part of Splinter’s very soul the last episode he was in, was he being literal? Was there something more going on there than just a hallucination? Did Splinter ever TELL anyone about his severe fever-induced mental breakdown or did he just suck it up and decide that he didn’t want to “bother” his kids with that traumatizing battle with his deepest darkest insecurities that drove him to the brink of insanity???

Okay, so in Lone Rat and Cubs Splinter said something during his big final battle with The Kraang that I didn’t quite understand at first. “This would be our philosophy” “This would be our theocracy”...  But apparently what he said was “This would be our Thermopylae

Thermopylae was a famous piece of land in northern Greece that followed a narrow mountain pass along the coast of a river, making it a choice location for multiple battles... most notably The Spartans’ last-ditch defense against the invading Persians in 480 BCE. The victory was was mythologized over time and became the subject of many stories and paintings, most notably the work of Jacques-Louis David (post-renaissance)

Leonidas at Thermopylae, 1813

Conclusion: Splinter is an enormous nerd.

“Michelangelo’s not a child and he doesn’t need to be coddled. He’s a complex character who has his own set of flaws and strengths that both need to be addressed”

“But every time someone so much as looks at Michelangelo wrong it takes you about .5 seconds to jump down their throat and declare Mikey your beautiful neurodivergent baby”

“Don’t you think you ought to dial it back a bit???”

Splinter: *Lost his home, heritage, and family little more than a year ago, and is now in the throes of having just lost his humanity. Remains patient and positive toward the reptilian infants he’s stuck with despite his losses, and as he warms up to them he decisively gives them names from an art period near and dear to his heart ever since he was a young child who dreamed of being an artist, symbolizing his high hopes for the turtles’ future despite their unorthodox appearance*

Y’all inevitably: “So he just puts a book down and names them after the first artist they crawl toward? smh lazy parenting at it’s finest…”

Okay, I know that the faux baby voices are kinda weird and their designs are up for debate, but the little details in the way the baby turtles move? 👌👌👌👌 A+
