The Episode Guide is live!
Hey followers!
The MLP Series Resource is proud to present a new feature: The Episode Guide
You can find it always on the left hand navigation. From the main guide you can select any episode from the original TV series run and be brought to its homepage which features: a link to all the photos and gifs of that episode on the tumblr, a video of the episode (where available), a synopsis, a detailed list of all the ponies appearing in that episode and the lyrics for all the songs of each episode.
Enjoy!
Hi! I love your blog, its so awesome! I was just wondering if you knew the original channel of the first My little pony series? I've been looking for a couple of years. No luck. I just found out My little pony tales was disney channel!
Oooooh that is something I don’t know… Someone else might, though! Can anyone else answer this question?
I wish I had a satisfying answer for you as I know I'd love one. The original My Little Pony series was made for first-run syndication. What that means is that individual independent television stations would purchase the rights to broadcast the episodes and then could do such in whatever time they wanted to.
When MLP was on the air it aired on weekdays whereas broadcast networks aired their cartoons on Saturday, thus the independent broadcasters didn't have to compete against the big networks. This was before Nickelodeon and Disney channel were big and before Cartoon Network even existed. So having children's cartoon blocks on in the afternoon became desirable and a lot of the 80s cartoons were aired this way (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers).
It was co-produced by Marvel Productions (now ABC-Disney) and Sunbow Productions (now Sony) and distributed by Claster (now Hasbro media). My assumption is that it was mostly played on local ABC affiliates. The television landscape was so different back in 1986 and 1987, a lot of the programming differed across the country and a lot more hours in the day were programmed by local affiliates instead of major nation-wide broadcasters.
I wish I had an exact answer but long story short, it aired on different networks all over the country!
