Day 05: Hand Holding AU Verse: Dragonhearted

Setting, Chapter 9: As Bilbo and Thorin grow closer and feelings have taken root, Thorin reflects on what he is. How could anyone like Bilbo be so keen on spending time with a monster like him? Or: inspired by The One Scene from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. (1151 words)

I’m not sure how many I’ll finish, but I wanted to participate in a few of these #fotfictober prompts with some of my favorite universes!  

  • If you want to see any specific prompts/AU verses, send me an ask!
  • I’m primarily using the universes I’ve already created (i.e. modern au fics like bookbinder//songwriter, where the shadows lie, etc.)
  • This by no means mean they’ll be canon to that particular story - like what you read? Maybe it could be canon.
  • These are small drabbles and I will not be spending a ton of time on them as I am working on other projects.

Thorin should have been content, but the more he sat and began to think of the events of the day, the more his brows furrowed while his glare burned into those rough, yet still very dwarven, palms of his. The scales barely made their way around to the underside of his hands, revealing that fleshy tone in contrast with the dark scales that made Thorin want to shudder every time he spared it a glance. It was just a reminder of what he had once been and what he was now.

A monster.

Flexing his fingers a bit and watching those scale-coated fingers and claws bend to press into his palms, the tightness in his jaw became near intolerable.

“Is something the matter?”

Before that jaw could grow much tighter, or those claws could pierce the soft flesh of his palms, Thorin’s head jerked up to stare at Bilbo who had an armful of books and a tilt of his head.

“I’m just…thinking.”
