Quick Updates!

So, just a few things to announce in between doing Anime North stuff: -The Misedashi/Erikae post that I made last week has been updated! To save you time in finding it (or loading it if you’re on mobile), the newly added misedashi dates are: May 22nd: Katsusemi (佳つ笑) of Odamoto (小田本) May 28th: Miwako (美羽子) of Nishimura (西村) June 6th: Mameyui (豆結) of Ninben (亻) Mameyui’s misedashi is on an auspicious day (the sixth day of the sixth month), which is very unique! -Instead of setting up a Ko-fi to take donations, I’ve just gone and set up a Paypal.me as Ko-fi sends its funds to Paypal anyway and by using Paypal as a middle man your donations are cut by an extra 5%. So, if you feel like tossing a dollar or two my way without having to go through the monthly subscription that Patreon gives, you can check it out here or on the new Paypal tab above.  -I’m trying to chip away at the questions that you’ve sent in, but convention work is keeping me very busy. If you have sent me in a question please know that I am not ignoring it nor have I deleted it, I just haven’t gotten time to answer it yet. Therefore, please do not send in your questions again (there have been a few duplicates that I’ve deleted because they were from the same person asking the same question, and when you’re trying to attack a pile of 40+ questions it’s a bit annoying to see duplicates as it feels as though people expect me to answer them right away and get frustrated if I don’t answer back within 24 hours). Some of your questions also require longer answers, which is fine as those are the ones that bring about a large amount of discussion and debate, so please don’t feel as though you need to “dumb down” or shorten your inquiries ^^ -I’ll try to show some convention stuff over the next week, so people who will be attending can have something look forward to and those who are interested can get a sneak peak ^^ 

Weekend Update 25/12

The last weekly update of the year is here~!  Karyukai News -Masano (満彩野) of Man (まん) in Gion Higashi had her misedashi on Tuesday (December 20th). -Chikasome (千賀染) of Komaya (駒屋) in Miyagawa Cho had her misedashi on Wednesday (December 21st) -Momika (もみ香) of Yamaguchi (やまぐち) in Pontocho is expected to have her misedashi this week. Blog News -What’s In a Kimono? Part 4 looked at a unique Taisho girl’s furisode. -The 12 Days of Fun started today! The first day ushered in What’s In a Name? Part 15 that took a look at Sono (園), Some (染), and Yuki/Kō/Sachi (幸). -The Random Fact of The Week looked at the patronage that geiko pay to their local shrines. -Mylo’s Pick of The Week once again looked at Mameroku (豆六) of Arai (新井) in Gion Kobu with an amazing composition. -There were so many, many questions asked this week (29 of them!)! Thank you for your great comments and questions throughout the year and feel free to keep them coming! -I was wondering if anyone would be interested in watching me do a live stream in the new year. You could send in your questions ahead of time or ask them live and I’d take an hour or so to flesh them out. If this is something you’d be interested in seeing me do then drop me a note or feel free to send in your thoughts and suggestions on the topic. -Many new names were added this week (and in a few weeks past when I forgot to update this part), so here’s the final count of names this year: Gion Kobu: 1,057 Pontocho: 481 Kamishichiken: 165 Miyagawa Cho: 333 Gion Higashi: 189  That’s 2,225 names! I hope you’ve enjoyed my work ^^

Weekend Update 11/12

The year is coming to a close quickly, so new developments will soon come to light as no one leaves business unattended at the end of the year! Karyukai News -Hisamomo (久桃) of Tanmika (丹美賀) in Pontocho will be having her erikae on January 24th, 2017. -Yamaguchi (やまぐち) in Pontocho has a new minarai named Momika (もみ香). Her onesan is Momiyuki (もみ幸) and she will be having her misedashi in December. -Kotohajime will take place on Tuesday, so look forward to many images circulating of maiko and geiko together in the streets with new fans from their dance masters. Blog News -Mylo’s Pick of The Week goes to Mameroku (豆六) of Arai (新井) in Gion Kobu, who happens to be my favorite maiko ^^ -The Random Fact of The Week looked at a type of comb that maiko wear and the origin of its name -You sent in so many questions again this week! Some were very in-depth and I had lots of fun answering them. If I don’t reply right away don’t panic, as I am either sleeping or putting together a long response (as was seen a few times this week). -I wrote about image theft (again) as I personally had another encounter with it -I’ve been doing so much behind the scenes work that I haven’t really posted any normal feature this week (oops!). I’ll try to get at least one of them out tomorrow. -Reminder that you can request certain things to be covered in various topics, such as books, kanji, kimono, or almost anything. Right now I am working on reviewing Women of The Pleasure Quarters by Lesley Downer as this was suggested a few months back and I recently acquired a copy. I really do listen to your thoughts and suggestions ^^ For anyone wondering about the kitty issue from last week: Yes, my sister’s cat won the competition so he will be a kitty model in the future!
