November 14th, 2024: A new minarai has emerged! Tomikoma (富胡麻) of Tomikiku (富菊) in Gion Higashi as begun her journey to becoming a maiko. August 26th, 2024: A new minarai has begun her journey to become a maiko! Masaya (満彩矢) of Man (まん) in Gion Higashi has begun her minarai period! She will be debuting without an onesan, but will be well looked after by geiko Masaki (満彩希), Masanao (満彩尚), and maiko Masane (満彩音). July 8th, 2024: A new minarai has made her debut! Fukuyumi (ふく弓) of Shigemori (しげ森) in Miyagawa Cho has taken one step closer to becoming a maiko! She is the imōto of Fukuchō (ふく兆), also of Shigemori, and has a very unique geimei. "弓" means "Bow" (an archery bow), so her name means "Lucky Bow," which sounds both very cute and very masculine at the same time! September 7th, 2023: Another young minarai has made her debut in Gion Higashi! Hinaho (雛帆) of Sakaemasa (栄政) is the imōto of Hinayū (雛佑) of Tanakanami (田中菜美) and will be making her debut on October 12th! March 16th, 2023: A new minarai is making her rounds in Miyagawa Cho! Kotono (小との) of Shigemori (しげ森) is the imōto of Kofuku (小ふく), also of Shigemori, and is currently the second active minarai in her district. February 13th, 2023: A new minarai has begun her maiko journey! Fuminami (ふみ波) of Katsufumi (勝ふみ) in Kamishichiken started her minarai period today! She is SUPER cute! It wouldn’t surprise me if Fumisono were to be promoted to ofuku within the coming months due to Fuminami’s debut too. Her misedashi will be in March ^^ Image is courtesy of Katsufumi.
January 23rd, 2023: Two new minarai have begun their journey to become maiko! Masane (満彩音) of Man (まん) in Gion Higashi and Kikushizu (菊しづ) of Hanafusa (花ふさ) in Miyagawa Cho will be the first debuts of the year when they have their misedashi in February! June 23rd, 2022: A new minarai has made her debut in Miyagawa Cho! Kimisora (君宙) is from the Honjo 本城) okiya and will be the imōto of Kimiyū (君有). She was dressed up in full maiko attire for her osakazuki (cup exchange) ceremony and then switched to her minarai attire later to be introduced to the neighborhood. May 2nd, 2022: A new minarai has made her debut in Miyagawa Cho! Fukumiyo (ふく美代) is from the Horiyae (堀八重) okiya and just started her minarai period today. She’s wearing a beautiful light blue kimono with cypress folding fans and a handara obi with sensu folding fans. April 15th, 2022: A new minarai has made her debut in Gion Higashi! Tomifuku (富芙久) is from the Tomikiku (富菊) okiya and she is super cute! She’ll be the first new debut for the district in almost 2 years, showing that Gion Higashi is starting to bounce back after the pandemic. November 2020: Meet Komaya (駒屋)’s newest minarai Toshimasa (とし真紗)! She is the imōto of Toshimana (とし真菜) and will be making her debut on December 8th! October 31st, 2020: Meet Miyagawa Cho’s newest minarai! Fumitsuru (富美鶴) is the imōto of natori geiko Fumiyū (富美祐) and hails from the Toshikimi (利きみ) okiya! She’s already shaping up to be a graceful dancer, so her career looks to be bright! February 18th, 2020: Two new minarai have debuted from Shigemori (しげ森) okiya in Miyagawa Cho! Their geimei are Fukumomo (ふく百) and Fukunagi (ふく凪) and are the imōto of Fukuhiro (ふく紘). Their misedashi will be in March ^^ Images are courtesy of Tomoko of Maiko Theatre.
January 16th, 2020: The newest Shigemori minarai has finally made her debut! Her geimei is Fukuyū (ふく侑) and she is the imōto of Fukuchō! November 28th, 2019: The photo shoot for the 2020 Kamogawa Odori poster has taken place, and some new faces are among the maiko! Current minarai Hideyoshi and about-to-be minarai Hidewaka can be seen at the back, but there’s also the addition of a new girl! According to the post her geimei is Ichikoto (市琴), but at this time what okiya she belongs to is unknown.
