Weekend Update 27/11

Some new developments and some reminders again this week! Karyukai News -Ichitomi (市十美) of Nakagishi (中支志) in Gion Kobu had her erikae on Monday (November 21st) -Chiyoko (知余子) of Nishimura (西村) in Gion Kobu had her erikae on Friday (November 25th) -Yukiha (由喜葉) of Tama (多麻) in Gion Kobu left the profession on Friday (November 25th) Blog News -So many wonderful questions were asked again this week! Thank you for sending them in! -Mylo’s Pick of The Week features geiko Makino (真希乃) of Gion Kobu -The Kanzashi Tab, although not 100% completed, is finally live! -The Random Fact of the Week looked at the makers of maiko kanzashi -Due to many various background issues the current book review won’t be available until this week. Sorry everyone for the wait!

Shared with permission from a friend who took these images. These are detail shots of Ichitomi’s beautiful erikae ensemble. Her kimono features a rare and gorgeous peacock motif with added peonies (on the opposite side) and pine trees and her juban has gold and silver pine needles to match. The hanao on her senryō geta are a very chic silver and pink, which contrasts well well the greens and blues on her kimono. Her golden obi features kikkō (tortoise shell) and hanabishi (flower diamonds) patterns that are meant to mimic the shell of a tortoise, an animal that is associated with long life and endurance.

Two More Erikae Are Coming!

Last week we saw the first images of Katsuhina (佳つ雛) of Odamoto (小田本) tying her obiage - a sign of an approaching erikae in Gion Kobu. Today, we have two new additions! Ichitomi (市十美) of Nakagishi (中支志) and Chiyoko (知余子) of Nishimura (西村) are also tying their obiage and will likely have their erikae at the same time by the end of the year.
