November 14th, 2024: Congratulations are in order for Kyoto's newest geiko! Mameaya (まめ彩) of Ninben (亻) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She was the most senior maiko in her district and the last active maiko at Ninben (for now). She suits the geiko look so well and her height can finally be appreciated in a geiko's attire! June 4th, 2024: Congratulations on another erikae in the karyukai! Kimishō (君翔) of Honjo (本城) in Miyagawa Cho is the celebrant this time! She was the only imōto of geiko Kimiaya (君綾), also of Honjo who left the profession back in 2021, but has grown into a hard worker and strong dancer. She is the third of four erikae to take place in two weeks across the karyukai, making this a very busy season! May 27th, 2024: Double congratulations are in order (slightly late!). Sayumi (紗友美) of Tsurui (つる居) in Gion Kobu and Ichikoto (市琴) of Katsumi (勝見) in Pontocho are celebrating their erikae! They're the first of four erikae scheduled for two weeks, making this a very busy time for the karyukai. Sayumi will be the last imōto that her onesan Sayaka will see celebrate her erikae as Sayaka is retiring in the coming weeks. Ichikoto, on the other hand, is the second imōto for Ichiraku to have her erikae. March 4th, 2024: Kyoto welcomes a new geiko! Fujichiyo (ふじ千代) of Fuji (ふじ) in Kamishichiken is celebrating her erikae! She is the first maiko for the newly opened Fuji okiya to have her erikae and the first Kamishichiken maiko to turn her collar in two years! Her erikae comes just in time for the Kitano Odori that starts in three weeks where she'll be applying her new geiko skills on stage. February 1st, 2024: A new geiko is born! Hidechiyo (秀千代) of Masamiya (雅美家) in Pontocho is celebrating her erikae! She is the second erikae for the new Masamiya okiya and the third geiko to reside there. She is also the first erikae for her kagai this year! January 23rd, 2023: Congratulations to Kyoto's newest geiko! Mameju (まめ樹) of Tama (多麻) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She is the eighth imōto of natori geiko Mamesuzu (まめ鈴), also of Tama (4th of her imōto to become geiko), and the first erikae of the year for the gokagai! Her erikae was very unique in that it was actually snowing while she was doing her rounds! December 14th, 2023: Double congratulations are in order! Fukusono (ふく苑) of Shigemori (しげ森) and Toshinagi (とし菜希) of Komaya (駒屋) in Miyagawa Cho are celebrating their joint erikae! Both women have been working hard towards this day under the tutelage of their onesan, Fukuchō (ふく兆) and Toshikana (とし夏菜). This is Fukuchō's first imōto to have her erikae and Toshikana's third! Fukusono's outfit features blue and white plum blossoms along a yellow stream paired with a gold obi of wisteria and karabana while Toshinagi's outfit features golden waves and lucky treasures with a gold obi of pine ^^! おめでとうさんどすふく苑さんととし菜希さん ^o^! November 20th, 2023: Congratulations to Kyoto's newest geiko! Miwako (美羽子) of Nishimura (西村) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She is the first imōto of natori geiko Mihoko (美帆子), also of Nishimura, to have her erikae, and is her district's fourth erikae this year! Her outfit is her own as it features her own kamon and is a testament to her popularity and the wealth of the Nishimura okiya. November 14th, 2023: Double congratulations are in order for Kyoto's newest celebrants! Mameyui (豆結) of Ninben (亻) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae while Fumiyui (富美唯) of Toshikimi (利きみ) in Miyagawa Cho is celebrating her misedashi! Mameyui's is the third erikae for her district this year so far while Fumiyui's misedashi is her district's fourth misedashi of the year. Mameyui's outfit features a beautiful design of a stream among purple hills with flowers and fans while Fumiyui's outfit features auspicious plants, folding screens, and haze ^^ おめでとうさんどす豆結さんと富美唯ちゃん ^o^! June 29th, 2023: The happy day has finally come! Koaki (小晶) of Kaden (花傳) in Miyagawa Cho is celebrating her erikae! She spent just over 5 years as a maiko to reach this point and was one of the most popular maiko in her district before turning her collar. Knowing Koaki, she’ll be a popular geiko too! June 3rd, 2023: Another geiko has appeared in Gion Kobu! Katsuemi (佳つ笑) of Odamoto (小田本) is celebrating her erikae! Her erikae had to be postponed a day due to heavy rains in Kyoto, but it was all worth it in the end. She is the first imōto of Katsue (佳つ江), also of Odamoto, to have her erikae and the second erikae within a week for the bustling district. May 29th, 2023: Congratulations are in order for Kyoto’s newest geiko! Mariko (槇里子) of Nishimura (西村) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She is second of natori geiko Makiko (槇子)’s imōto to have their erikae and the first erikae so far this year for Gion Kobu. March 3rd, 2023: A lovely day for a lovely geiko to be born! Hidemai (秀眞衣) of Masamiya (雅美家) in Pontocho is celebrating her erikae! She is the first maiko from the newly opened Masamiya okiya to have her erikae and is sharing the occasion with the Hina Matsuri festival! January 26th, 2023: Congratulations to Kyoto’s newest geiko! Fukuyuri (ふく友利) of Horiyae (堀八重) in Miyagawa Cho is celebrating her erikae! She is the first imōto of Fukuai (ふく愛) to reach the milestone and is looking absolutely stunning! Her outfit features pine and waves with a matching golden obi of pine ^^ おめでとうさんどすふく友利さん ^o^! December 15th, 2022: Kyoto’s newest geiko is born! Katsuharu (佳つ春) of Odamoto (小田本) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She is the fourth erikae for Gion Kobu in the past six weeks, a sign that business is picking up again after the pandemic. Her kimono features luscious peonies among clouds with instruments of her craft such as a drum and a dancing fan and is accented with a golden obi featuring cranes and karabana ^^ おめでとうさんどす佳つ春さん ^o^! November 30th, 2022: A new geiko is born! Nanoha (菜乃葉) of Tama (多麻) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She is the second of four Gion Kobu erikae scheduled for this fall and the first for Tama in quite a while. She is wearing the Tama okasan’s famous erikae outfit that she herself wore for her own erikae back in the 1950s! November 7th, 2022: A new geiko is born! Mamesaya (豆沙弥) of Ninben (亻) in Gion Kobu is celebrating her erikae! She is the first imōto of natori geiko Mameya (まめ弥), also of Ninben, to do so and is the first of three upcoming erikae for Gion Kobu before the end of the year.
