18: Flower Shop/Tattoo Shop

"You want...A bouquet?" The woman's smile speaks her amusement, but the raised eyebrow speaks of something else - Surprise, perhaps? Or incredulity? Or, most likely, she's wondering if all her flirtations have failed her, and he's ended up with another woman. There, her worries would be unfounded.
"I do." John says. "But I'm afraid my purposes are rather boring."
"Oh? Do tell."
"I'm going to attempt some flowers. I'd like to be able to offer a wider array of them then I currently do."
"Hmmm." She straightens, and her eyes roam her shop. "Well, well. Let's see..."
Cleo begins circling around the shop - around him.
"Roses are an easy favorite." She gently picks up a red rose and lifts it to her face. "Can you draw roses?"
"I can. But perhaps I'd best buy one anyways."
"Whatever for?"
"To give to you, of course." John can't stop a smile as he says it.
He expects Helen's response. He expects coolness, he expects reserve, he expects a hesitant smile at best, a reminder the distance grown between them.
Instead, a laugh bursts out of Cleo and she claps a hand over her mouth. She turns away, as if to hide the blush darting across her cheeks.
"Oh, aren't you sweet?" Cleo says, a moment later. Pleasure lays thick in her voice, nothing guarded - her whole and genuine heart is held out to him in that laugh, that blush, that tone.
He can only imagine how she will react to the box of chocolates he'll send her for her help today.
