100 Themes Challenge - 11/100: Fight

Adira’s entire body aches. Muscles cramp from overuse, hands and legs tremble from exhaustion, and blood oozes from wounds. Her sword is heavy in her hands - the tip constantly threatens to dip down to touch the ground.
But still she lifts it up, gasping as agony screams through her.
The fight isn’t over yet.
With a scream of primal, feral rage, she lunges at the monster again, but the thing bats her away like she’s of no more consequence than a fly. She tips to the side and only catches herself on her own knees. Kneeling in the mud, she only manages to defend herself through pure muscle memory.
The thing swings, she lifts her sword. Deflects. Rolls to the side. Lunges up and through and drives her sword in, in, IN.
She and it are both screaming, monstrous rage and pain and fight flowing through them, the only things they have in common, the only things they will ever have in common.
And then it slumphs over. Dead.
Adira rips her sword out and falls backwards into the mud. Rain drums down on her skin, catches in her red hair, mingles with the blood on her clothes. She gasps for air. It’s slow in coming. But eventually, she stops gasping, and merely breathes.
She closes her eyes, taking a few more moments to drink in her victory.
The fight is over.
