Hey has tumblr heard about the Chase “Infinite Money glitch” debacle from tiktok yet because

I cannot believe

I cannot believe that people actually tried this

And even less can I believe that they’re going full Karen to Chase customer service workers. Like you did check fraud. You did a crime. You don’t get to complain about the consequences.

Wait like some people don’t know

So there was a glitch in Chase’s check deposit system. Usually when you cash a check, only a fraction of the full amount is available to you immediately until the check clears. The glitch made it so you could cash a checks full amount right away no matter how big.

So. People were writing themselves massive checks and immediately withdrawing cash they technically didn’t have and then closing their bank account. They were calling it an “infinite money glitch” like it’s the Sims or something.

But it’s not like a cheat code that was suddenly discovered. It’s just check fraud. It’s just straight up a felony. And a good chunk of them filmed themselves doing it.

So people are waking up finding they’re in the negative however many thousands of dollars they pulled.

What BAFFLES me is that people are calling Chase demanding their accounts be reopened, demanding their money back. Work from home Chase agents have shared the calls they’ve been getting from people angry they’re in the red. Like it’s not your money anymore, love, you STOLE it and they took whatever you had originally to try to pay the balance back!! That’s not yours anymore!

People are being SNIPPY on tiktok when people tell them that they did a CRIME. This one lady was like “you don’t know the law, my lawyer knows the law” and it’s like honey! Your lawyer is going to do his fuckin best but you did a crime and then you FILMED YOURSELF. You’re going to jail! Now is the time to start practicing what my therapist calls radical acceptance!

So that’s the tea on the money glitch. Most banks are giving them 30 days to pay the amount back but some people I’ve heard are already being arrested.

just got a second official warning for my use of "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free" on the OTW volunteer slack

people are also currently asking board to ban saying that the founding of israel was colonialism—equating this to saying racial slurs—and were complaining about my status back when it was "palestine will be free", too

suffice to say, fuck that place, don't give the OTW your money, and don't fucking volunteer there

(the second screenshot is from the warning I got a few days ago)

They have officially publically taken down BOTH sites' comment sections within a few hours. They also explicitly deleted the small batch of around 10 comments that people made on OTW's site asking AO3 to address these concerns or describing their own disappointment. This isn't just an accident or something that a few people at the OTW did/said. It can't be excused as an individual fuck up. This is systemic and volunteers/chairs had to be TOLD to take these comments down and start to censor people. Someone at the OTW was told to jump and a volunteer/chair responded with "How high". Someone was tasked with censorship for VERY SERIOUS allegations and a volunteer or chair proceeded to do just that.

Not only is this horrific in this context, but this is a line that the OTW cannot uncross. You do this ONCE and it sets the precedent that the OTW can do this whenever it wants at whatever time it feels like. Any statement of human rights abuses? Well AO3 now can just say "nuh uh" and it's gone. You make a statement discussing liberation and AO3 can just sweep you up and throw you out. This is actively telling the users that they can and will silence all stakeholders if it means that they don't have to accept the human rights of whatever group they damn please. AO3 can just fix its mouth to say that any form of identity is out of fashion and retroactively remove you from working there or remove your comments/fic.

PSA to Real Person Fiction (RPF) Writers

Had trouble pasting the video here, but @ao3commentoftheday posted this video about this announcement from Channel 4.

ALT

Here is a quote from the article:

Channel 4 has commissioned a new comedy entertainment series from RDF seeing celebrities reading steamy fan fiction acted out by a cast of lookalike puppets.
In each episode of The Really Really Rude Puppet Show (w/t), Mel Giedroyc invites a different celebrity to read an erotic piece of creative writing where the celeb is the lead protagonist. Each character in the story is brought to life by a band of puppets voiced entirely by the celebrity and Mel.

According to @ao3commentoftheday, Channel 4 representatives are also already commenting on AO3 works asking writers to write RPFs for their show. AO3 is currently deleting the comments as spam.

What’s happening now is an issue in more ways than one. Beyond writers being exploited for their free content, their EROTIC fiction will be read out by their intended celebrity through puppets with the effect of making fun of the written content (nevermind the fact that it’s making fun of women and queer sexual expression) and potentially making these celebrities feel very uncomfortable.

It’s already mentioned in @ao3commentoftheday’s video, but TO ALL RPF WRITERS AND ESPECIALLY TO BRITISH RPF WRITERS—HIDE YOUR RPF WORKS, both current and future works.

On AO3, you have the option to private individual works so that they are only viewable to registered AO3 users (for those who are not AO3 users, your AO3 mutuals can send you an invitation). Tumblr also has settings to hide your blog from external search engines such as Google and only make it viewable to Tumblr registered users. I’m not sure what features are available on Wattpad or FFN in terms of hiding fan fic works, but if anyone uses those sites, please be sure to hide your RPF works from public view if possible.

As a fan fiction community, it’s especially vital now that we continue to prevent our works from being exploited and ridiculed.

Please jump in if there is anything I am missing—or something that I am saying that may unintentionally be misinformation.

Yeeeeaaaaah...as much as I love writing RPF for Henry I don't want him reading my stuff...out loud...on national television...as a joke.

Not only do I believe that this will make those celebrities exceedingly uncomfortable, it would make the viewers uncomfortable watching their favorite celebrity be uncomfortable. Celebrities know that book porn of them exists but I'm sure they won't willingly read it.

Fanfiction writers are already shit on and not taken seriously as writers as it is, this will only make it worse.
