😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💙💙💙💙💙
That’s hilarious.
Remember that great post about the differences between the mistakes bilinguals make in real life and the way they’re often written in fic? This is a perfect example of that.
So the Hebrew version of SpongeBob is literally called Bob Sponge because in Hebrew adjectives come before nouns (like in Spanish where it’s Bob Esponja). Now usually you try to be conscious of that but since Bob Sponge is a name/title you don’t necessarily think about the sponge part of his name as an adjective.
And the o sound in Lois isn’t really used in Hebrew except for foreign names/places/terms. English has a dozen vowel sounds and Hebrew has like five and they tend to be very clipped in the modern pronunciation, so names like Lois or Lowell have to be consciously pronounced the right way and with a bit of an artificial inflection. There’s another interview where she says London and you can hear how it isn’t the o sound native English speakers would use (making it Luhndun) but the very short o you use in Hebrew that I can’t actually think how to render phonetically in English.
So when writing bilingual characters these are two really common mistakes to consider.
Also I saw some comments/tags on this having a go at Chris for teasing her but to me it seems 1000% fine, and IIRC Gal has said the same in interviews back home about having to work on her English and the funny mistakes she still makes. That’s not to say that it’s always or even usually okay to tease anyone about their English but in this specific case there isn’t some larger socio-political undercurrent regarding Hebrew as a first language or Israeli accents that might make Chris’ teasing come off as an icky superiority thing.
so how about a movie starring Chris Evans, Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pratt directed by Christopher Nolan naturally titled The Crisis
THE CHRISIS
Coming out this Christmas
