the crowdstrike catastrophe is getting resolved but the intel 13th and 14th gen CPU nightmare is just beginning. damn

basically: a significant number of the past few years of intel CPUs are almost guaranteed to die due to a manufacturing error. it is just a matter of time. and then they will break.

how many are affected, you might ask? intel says shut up. how can you tell if your CPU is going to die? go mind your own business. is there a recall? absolutely not. what can you do about it when your shit breaks? go fuck yourself is what

to find out what gen intel cpu you have (on windows, idk how to do this for mac or linux, i'm sorry) go to your start or search menu and type in device manager:

In device manager, look up processor:

Mine is a 12th gen, so I am safe from this bug.

Now, I haven't had a chance to watch the videos, so sorry if I am reiterating things here, but because some people learn better with text:

How to read intel CPU product labels for intel CORE processors (this is the most common intel cpu you are likely to find for home pc and laptop builds, their other cpu product lines are more for servers and ai and people who still use 32bit OSes, which are largely obsolete now):

the first letter number combo is always i and either no number, 3, 5, 7, or 9. The number refers to the amount of cores a cpu has. In general, more cores, faster cpu. (there are other things that affect cpu speed though, mostly clock speed. This is usually listed in ghz on the product page, but it's not relevant here to determine if you have one of the unlucky broken cpu models.)

In this example, I have an i7, which has more cores than an i5, but less than an i9.

The first 2 numbers after the i number is usually what generation you have. Sometimes, depending on how old your cpu is, it's only the first number. Mine is a 12, so I have a 12th generation cpu.

The numbers after that are the SKU numbers and largely are not important.

The letters determine if your cpu has onboard graphics or needs a discrete graphics card, and if it comes with a cooler/can be overclocked. (i personally do not recommend overclocking because a lot of software isn't really designed to support it and it can cause problems) If it has an F, it means you need a separate graphics card. If it has a K, it means you can overclock it, and also that it does not come with its own cooling.

Laptop cpus almost always will come with their own cooling because laptops get really hot and cooling in laptops is kind of abysmal to begin with.

If you have a LAPTOP, and your intel cpu is 13 or 14, you will have to replace the ENTIRE LAPTOP. start making backups of all your important information ASAP. Due to how laptops are constructed, you cannot replace a single part, you have to replace the whole machine. If you have a PREBUILT desktop, if you can figure out what motherboard you have, you may be able to buy a replacement cpu. If you build your own desktop, you are definitely able to replace your cpu.

A cpu is attached to your motherboard - if the cpu fries, it can also damage your motherboard as well, so if it's at all possible, and you're ended up with one of the broken cpus, I would look into replacing the motherboard as well. (Again, if you have a laptop, you need to replace everything. Sorry.)

there ARE a few laptops where you can replace the CPU, like framework, but for 99%, yeah. SOL. if you do not already know whether the CPU can be replaced on your laptop, it almost definitely can not be replaced.

back your stuff up!!

If you’re a real human person still using the default tumblr avatar, consider changing it.

why should you change it?

When you guys pop up in our notifications, most seasoned tumblr users will suspect you’re a bot and block on sight.

why do we block immediately?

tumblr has a history of bots trying to infiltrate and establish a connection to a valid, existing blog in order to populate google searches. Simply liking or reblogging a post, not just adding a scam link to it, establishes this connection. Tumblr users don’t want this to happen, especially if it’s a scammy p*rn bot. So, we often block on sight.

So now I have to reblog stuff AND change my pfp?

Well, of course that’s up to you! I just want to explain why you may have been already blocked by an artist/blogger you may have discovered recently, and how you can avoid it in the future.

Reblogging does help creators more than likes because your reblogs will show up on the dash of those that may follow you. Plus, reblogging puts that post on your own blog, and in case the original gets deleted or edited by the OP, it’ll be on your blog like that–forever (or until you delete your blog). Nice.

Here are some free icons created by catalyststuff on freepik. Highly recommend their art for a simple replacement!

see, this is how you inform without guilt-tripping

one of the current bot name trends is a word or name followed by two numbers (e.g. lizziebear61), so bear that in mind if you find yourself getting blocked by blogs you’re following!

tumblr is kicking people out of their blogs, making them reset their passwords and wiping their blog themes stating it had "suspicious code"

go into your blog themes HTML code RIGHT NOW and copy & paste EVERYTHING into a new google docs or whatever you use so you can save it and not have it wiped from tumblrs fucking incompetence at running a website

IF YOUVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS! USE TUMBLRS THEME RECOVERY TOOL

this meme made me realise that other people apparently know how to show empathy without personal anecdotes

… how…. please teach me

I’m pretty sure none of us will get answers but please…if someone knows the secrets to showing empathy without personal anecdotes please speak up. We need answers

(Me (adhd + autism) can show empathy, but not sympathy. For me, it’s like I do the exact same thing, but as well as showing empathy through anecdotes I show sympathy through empathy).

I have somethin I guess? I’ve been the Support Friend for most of my life so I managed to get it down to a formula. TW: dog death

1. Ask Questions

This is mainly to keep them talking, that way a) they feel like they have a confidante in you, and b) the pressure is less on you to Say Things. In fact it shouldn’t be about you Saying Things at all, it should be you figuring out where they’re at and trying to understand.  E.g. “My dog died, I miss him.” Ask questions, and when they start talking, let them talk. “What was his name?” “How and when did he die?” “Tell me about him.” “What was he like?” “What’s your favourite memory of him?” “When did you first meet him?” “Did you teach him any tricks?” Again the point is to keep them talking, the questions are just to get them on a roll. If you’re worrying about what to say next, listen to what they’re saying and ask details of what they’re currently talking about, or mentally prepare your next question.

2. Listen

Let them talk. The more you listen to them talk, the more they feel like it’s okay to talk to you. If they dwindle off, ask them something else to get them talking again. Upset people usually have a lot to say.

Every now and again you can throw in little sentences like “Wow, what a bitch!” “Aw, so sad.” “What the fuck? Why?” just to prove you’re still listening and following, and haven’t wandered off into space.

3. When they’re done, give it back to them

It’s a technique called mirroring. Sum up whatever you heard in short form - if they’ve talked for half an hour about the little details of their deceased pet, say something like “It sounds like he was a very good boy/sounds like he meant a lot to you/sounds like you will miss him.” It’s been known to make people dissolve into a sobbing mess, because this is the part where you prove you’ve done your homework, you listened, you care, you get it.

4. If you really want to offer a solution, ask first. You can just skip this step altogether tbh.

Only when someone has finished talking about whatever is upsetting them, ask if you can help. “Can I offer some advice?”  Now is the time for SHORT anecdotes. Short. It’s not about you sharing your story, it’s about them getting advice. Remember they don’t have to take your advice, again it’s about them and their emotions, and they know themselves best. “When my dog died, I did this. Would that help?” “I read somewhere about doing this. Maybe try that and see how it goes?”

Hope this helps y’all. The TL;DR of all this is basically listen, and prove you’re listening.

Thank you!!!

That explanation really is so good!

Alright but this-

This highlights a lot of things

And I get that people use the fact that Shoto hasn’t become a villain as a “that’s why Touya is shitty” but like... are we gonna forget that the highlighted portions mention that Shoto has the entirety of Class 1A on his side?

Touya had 3 siblings, 1 who looks away, 2 who were too young. That’s it.

Touya is meant to represent everything that could’ve gone wrong. I have high hopes that one day Shoto can get through him and bring him home.

let’s talk about racism in the danmei fandom

alright so originally i wrote this for twitter, but i felt like tumblr could benefit from it too. today we’re finally getting the long awaited “deconstruction of racism in the danmei fandom” post. and lemme preface this by saying- i’m chinese-american. i’m nblm. i do, in fact, have the cultural and historical background to know what i am talking about. so let’s get into it.

this is gonna be a long post, because we have a lot to talk about. first, racism doesn’t have to be as blatant as calling me a chink, or saying all asians look the same, or not wanting to consume asian media, or making ching chong jokes.racism can be as subtle towards asians as it can towards any other race. if you think i shouldn’t have to say that, join the club, bc same.

second, racism towards asians, especially in the west, has a long history of being overlooked and accepted. now, let’s talk about how racism dictates some of the takes you see in the fandom. firstly, what originally inspired this thread- the mxtx rumors and the jokes being made about her and censorship. now, obvs some ppl are gonna say that they were just jokes made in poor taste. and, sure. but they were jokes made in poor taste, steeped in racism. the jokes being made about mxtx going to jail happen bc ppl do not view her as a real person. not rlly. she’s an author, sure, the author of one of their favorite novels, but she’s not, like. a person with thoughts and feelings and a life. and that sort of casual lack of humanhood and agency given to danmei authors is rooted in the severely racist dehumanization of asians that’s prevalent in the west. this is something that can be seen other places, too- a good example being when parasite was notably nominated for every oscar category *except* the acting ones.

it’s this lack of personhood, this lack of agency, that allows ppl to have takes like “censorship isn’t actually bad, and here’s why”. yes, this is a real take that i saw. this take argues that the cql is better than mdzs, bc it is “softer and less graphic”. in general, a lot of ppl have the take that mxtx’s works in particular are too graphic, with problematic sexual elements. now, i’ve talked before about how that’s a homophobic take bc gay relationships should also be allowed to be messy. but it’s also deeply entrenched in racism. it’s why white gays can have the take “this is Problematique and here’s why” and claim it’s not homophobic.

racism against asians has long since created a trend of sexualizing them- thinking asian men are sexy while also removing their sexual agency. asian men can be sexy, but they can’t actually *have sex*. not explicitly. there’s a historical, real world element to this. “not fats no femmes no asians” could definitely be seen on ppls grindr profiles, back in the day. asians can be sexy, sure. look at kpop boys. but they can’t be sexual. they’re infantilized. they have to remain pure and wholesome, or they’re dragged as problematic and homophobic and fetishizing, a word that’s thrown around so often it’s practically lost meaning. fetishizing is my ex-bf telling me i’m sexy bc* i’m asian, it’s bl/yaoi fans approaching a gay couple on the bus and gushing over how “cute and yaoi they are.” fetishizing is *not* showing your 2 male main charas having explicit sex. if it is, then every white fan in danmei is fetishizing asians.

but i digress- back to the point about racism. the fact that ppl can argue about censorship shows that they, as a whole, aren’t considering the ramifications of censorship on the literal country it exists in, and it’s citizens. i, obvs, do not live in china. but i’ve got relatives who do, and who did. i’ve got relatives who fled china. not everything is about you and the media you want to consume. and then, of course, there’s the casual racism. the everyday racism. the racism that lies in things like saying all the names are too similar and it’s hard to keep track of them. the racism in saying things like “i’m just here to have fun,,,like sure, i’d persevere through dostoevsky, but this is danmei”, as if danmei is somehow inferior, as if danmei isn’t meant to be critically engaged with, as if danmei doesn’t tackle and critically explore some of the deepest and darkest issues.

asian media is often presented that way, from kung fu movies to danmei. there is a type of racism, of eurocentrism, that exists in the belief that western media has deeper, more engaging morals. asian media is more “fun”. asian media is almost entirely based on morals and deep thought, it’s just not based in western ones. for example, two of my favorite authors are haruki murakami and kazuo ishiguro. both are japanese authors, who’s works i’ve heard westerners describe as weird and without a point, when in fact they are simply telling stories with innately eastern asian morals and teachings. it’s the same type of racism that causes ppl to make jokes about asian food, to not view it as a craft the same way they do french food. it’s asian- it must be “less than”, be inferior, be inherently not worth as much.

casual racism about asians is normalized, which isn’t a word i use often. it’s normalized to the point where ppl don’t even realize they have that sort of implicit bias, and we know ppl don’t rlly come on the internet to think critically. but unintentional racism is still racism. it still has an impact, still does damage. ppl need to think intentionally and critically in how they consume and interact with media not made for them, but they don’t, instead choosing to come in with their preexisting biases, and bc of that, it’s easy for fandom members to dismiss the cultural concerns of chinese ppl within the fandom. it’s easy, for example, to say “calling them martial brothers is incest apologism”, ignoring the inherent cultural roots of martial brothers.

now, we’re gonna get in to the current “drama”. i do not ship chengxian. i think that even bears repeating. i Do Not ship chengxian. i have written them, in a modern au, as adopted brothers. but there is a real historical and culture relevance to the idea of martial brothers, of community, that westerners willfully refuse to hear, claiming instead that “you’re disregarding adopted families!” no. that’s not what’s happening at all. what’s happening is ppl are refusing to look at their own, western bias, and placing western values on an eastern idea. community raising of children, community family bonds without being adopted families, is important in east asian culture. there is a long history of community being whats important, and ppl don’t get that you can be a “communal/community family” without being considered familial. jyl choosing to view wwx as her brother, bc he is a martial brother, and chengxian being in love, are things that can technically coexist. whether or not you choose to perceive them as such, refusing to acknowledge the real history of martial brothers, and scremaing “incest apologism” whenever someone tries to explain it, is inherently racist. it’s you assuming you know my culture better than me. it’s you assuming your western ideas are the only ones that exist. which is, at its core, the basis for most racism in the danmei fandom.

most racism in the danmei fandom comes from this idea that casual racism against asians isn’t *really* racism, and therefore asians don’t *really* get to have a say, and it shouldn’t matter anyway bc we’re lucky you’re even engaging with danmei, with asian content, since it’s shallow and inferior anyway. the racism comes from a place of moral superiority, of ownership, of this assumption that westerners are entitled to not just consume danmei but also bring their western lens and apply it to something that was never written for them in the first place.

Your blog was hacked: what to do?

If you see weird pics of ladies with dubious links posted on your blog out of the blue, here’s a step by step way of stopping this and preventing it from happening again that I think might work.

Important : this only works if you can still access your blog!

Changing your password is important, but it won’t do you any good if your hacker still has an opened session on your blog and can still access it. So the first thing you wanna do is close your hacker’s session.

For that you need to go in your blog’s settings:

image

On the new page opened, scroll all the way down. There, you can see something called “Active Sessions“. The first and oldest one (”current session” in green) should be yours, the new one should be the hacker’s session. To close your hacker’s session, click the gray X next to it.

Now that their session is closed, they can’t access your blog anymore unless they enter the password again.

So don’t lose time, go all the way back up and change your password immediately. Make also sure your hacker didn’t change your email address.

Now you should be safe from your hacker. But it won’t prevent you from getting hacked again.

If you really want to be safe from hackers, you should turn on the “Two-factor authentification” option (on the same page).

It requires you to enter your phone number, which is a bummer. But if it’s turned on, everytime you wanna log on (so not if your session is already opened, but only if you log off and try to log on again), it will send a code on your phone that you’ll have to enter (in addition to having a password).

That way if someone tries to hack you again, even if they get your password right, they won’t be able to enter your blog without having that code.

There it is. I hope it will help some of you, since I see more and more people noticing blogs being hacked

with light about the massive wave of bot-hacking i’m seeing, please do this and keep your blog and all of your personal information secure!

About Felix

So, I haven’t seen anyone talk about this, and, mind you, I don’t go that deep into the fandom anymore, but still. This is kind of salty, though more at Thomas than the show itself? Because I saw this episode for exactly what it was long before it even aired just from the title alone based on things Thomas has said in the past, and the tldr I guess is that Thomas made this episode to boast about Adrien being the better love interest choice and to prove himself right. I’ll explain.

Since the dawn of this show’s existence, people have been asking Thomas about Felix. Now, I wasn’t around in the PV days, but I’ve seen and heard through the grapevine that Felix from the PV version got a lot of hype in fandom, and really both he and Bridgette (PV Marinette) did. People speculating about him and the show in general and just all sorts of things. And when they decided to scrap that concept and go in a new direction, people often asked questions about it. I remember even when I came into the fandom (around the end of s1 right as Volpina/Origins was airing) that people asked Thomas repeatedly about Felix on Twitter. Why did they change over to Adrien? Would we ever see Felix in canon? And it all boiled down to Thomas stating that Felix was a “bad concept” that they axed in favor of Adrien because they didn’t see how Marinette could fall in love with someone like him. So they went with Adrien instead.

Now, over the years people never really shut up about Felix, and Thomas got pretty annoyed by it. He has always held to it that Adrien was the “better” choice in the matter, and that Felix was a bad concept that would never see the light of day. Of course, we now know that to be untrue which Thomas has even said that he purposefully lied about somethings to keep them secret, so whatever on that front, but from the moment that I saw Felix as an episode title, I had a sneaking suspicion about what Thomas’ intention was with that episode, and the synopsis all but more or less confirmed it for me.

Thomas got so fed up with fans asking about Felix that he really wrote a wholeass episode that included him, but he made him such a dick on purpose so that people would be like oh, you were right. He is bad, and as much as I enjoy the scene with Ladybug punching him for not taking no for an answer, I can see through it as Thomas lifting Adrien up because Ladybug literally says “Adrien would never.” Which is something that Thomas himself has said on Twitter when someone sent him an edit of Adrien with Ladybug in that exact position pressed against a wall, and Thomas was like Adrien wouldn’t do that he’s a gentleman/perfect/blah blah blah. He’s said before that he made Chloe/Lila “the worst things he could think of,” and now he came out here and made Felix the opposite of Adrien and horrible so that Adrien looks better by comparison. Some fans sent him that edit, and he went hmm? Adrien would never, so let’s make Felix do that because it’s icky and bad and this will prove how much better Adrien is. Mmm yes.

This whole episode was an ego stroke for Thomas to “prove” what a better choice Adrien was as a love interest so that the Felix fans would shut up. I saw that going in, and lo and behold, that’s what it was. I wasn’t surprised, and I even chuckled sardonically about it because Thomas is so petty that he literally did that to shade fans of his show. It’s probably known that I don’t particularly care for him. I don’t think he or any creator should be harassed, but like I don’t exactly think he’s not an asshole, and this episode just made me roll my eyes because I can see the ego stroking happening. But whatever. S3 is wrapped, and I have a lot of fic to write.

If you were a Felix fan, and canon Felix ain’t your jam then I suggest ignoring him and sticking to whatever version of PV Felix you like to use because canon Felix was only inserted so Thomas could pat himself on the back for making Adrien. And that’s not even Adrien salt because I like Adrien, I do, but I just roll my eyes at a creator shading his fanbase because he got annoyed.

What is pillowfort? :)

Pillowfortis an alternative to tumblr. You can post art, gifsets, photos, metas, etc. Butit’s MUCH more organized and better developed than tumblr.

Here aresome more reasons why Pillowfort is better than tumblr:

  • Security. Thewebsite is currently offline because of a security threat. Unlike tumblr, assoon as they noticed a flaw in their security they decided to take the wholething down rather than jeopardize its user’s I safety. They also werecompletely honest about what was happening and why. That’s the kind ofintegrity I respect.
  • Threaded conversations. You can have long discussion without clogging everyone’s dashboard.
  • Fan Communities.we can organize ourselves in groups to talk about our interests. Instead ofhaving multiple accounts, we can simply join different groups. Example: @flaminganakin created one for fans of the Skywalker family (SkywalkerFamily Feels).
  • You can controlwho can see your posts. When you post something you can decide to make it public, private or just for a select group of users (only mutuals or only followers).
  • No wank. Theyhave a strict guideline that forbids any sort of tumblr’s most toxic behavior (nocallouts posts, no shamming, no hate speech, etc.)
  • Blacklist.A blacklist/blocking system that actually works.
  • Editingposts. When you delete/edit it will affect ALL the reblog. On Tumblr if youdelete a post it will only disappear from your own blog. On pillowfort it will disappearfrom the website.
  • No adds.Pillowfort is funded by its users.
  • No pornbots.

If you want to know more check out their tumblr :)

So, I heard you’ve been wondering what are the 3000 rules of Gusu Lan Sect?

See that wall? It’s the Lan Sect’s Wall of Discipline that appeared for 2 seconds in MDZS Episode 2. Some very diligent soul on Weibo actually went to read the texts carved on that Wall. Probably with a magnifying glass. No joke. Like, seriously, no joke.

Here goes all the rules that she managed to read out - translated hopefully not horrendously by Tumblr user my-otp-list.

“Do not kill within Cloud Recesses

Do not fight without permission

Do not commit acts of promiscuity

Do not go out at night

Do not make noise

Do not walk too fast

Do not laugh for no reason

Do not sit with a disgraceful pose

Do not eat more than 3 bowls (Translator’s note: LOL)

Be a filial child

Organise work properly

Diligence is the root

Morality is the priority

Harmony is the value

Learning comes first

Do not take your own words lightly

Do not act impulsively

Do not give up on learning

Make sure to act virtuously

Do not forget the grace of the forefathers

Be careful with your words

Be respectful and humble

Be loyal and filial

Be amicable and united

Be of one mind

Train your body and your mind

Stop the bad habits

Be strict with yourself

Be easy on others

Do not hold grudges

Love and respect yourself

Maintain your own discipline

If others win over you, do not envy

If other lose to you, do not look down

Do not be wasteful

Do not create damages

Love all beings

Honour good people

Steer away from bad men

Respect the filial ones

Destroy the five poisons*

Nurture aspirations

Uphold the value of justice

Shoulder the weight of morality

Embrace the entirety of the world

Perform acts of chivalry

Have courage and knowledge

Have courtesy and integrity

Have affection and gratefulness

Have wins and losses

Be fair, and they will follow you

Be trustworthy, and they will believe you

Be mighty, and they will die for you

Take the straight path

Reject the crooked road

Earn trust

Believe sincerely

Have a strong will and anything can be achieved

Win friendships with kindness

See friends as neighbours

Be just

Be generous

Be ethical

Be grateful

Be loyal

Appreciate the good people

Wake up at 8am

Do not be picky about food

Have a proper posture

Do not be overly happy

Do not be overly sad

Do not be over-the-top

Do not use bad words to hurt others

Do not spread empty lines

Do not break promises

Do not form cliques

Do not speak ill of others

Do not live extravagantly

Do not build wealth by using others, for this wealth won’t last

Help the underprivileged

Do not argue with your family, for it doesn’t matter who wins

Speak meagerly, for too many words only bring harm”

So, does anyone here think they qualify to be a Gusu Lan Sect disciple? (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

.

Bonus - An actual rule that was added by Lan Qiren after WWX and LWJ got together:

“Do not get near Wei Ying”

No, I’m not kidding.

.

All ‘squinting and staring’ credit goes to Weibo user 啧昵称什么好烦_yooooo.

Spoilers for episode 3!

TW: mentions of r*pe

Banana Fish fans,

Yes, the kiss was great. It wasn’t romantic, but at least it wasn’t censored. That fact alone should be celebrated.

But please don’t just focus on that. Today’s episode was more than just the kiss. It was Ash in prison, Ash getting gang r*ped, Ash being hurt by his r*pists but also Max, Ash remembering painful things about Max and Griffin. I just want us to take a moment to realize and acknowledge this too and not just fangirl/fanboy on the kiss.
