So I went to see “Free! The Final Stroke” part 1, and now you all have to hear me scream about it

I was scared to see this movie. I didn’t enjoy Season 3, the High Speed! movie was a monumental disappointment, and I hadn’t been active in the fandom for a long while. Maybe I was over it. Maybe there was no getting back that heart-pounding excitement and adrenaline rush of watching these episodes week after week with a server full of equally excited friends.

But I knew I wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t see this. If I didn’t at least close this chapter of my life. I needed to see how they wrapped everything up. Even though I knew it was going to be a train wreck, it was a train wreck I needed to see.

So I bought my ticket, double-masked, and waited for the lights to go down.

When they came back up, after it was said and done….I wanted to cry. I wanted to cry real big fat tears of happiness because this was what i had been waiting for and missing. This. THIS WAS SO GOOD. This was SO FULFILLING. And even though it ends on a spectacular emotionally gut-wrenching cliffhanger, I WAS GLAD FOR IT.

Ok, so the spoilers blew me away. It is more than what i hoped for. I'll just give my very brief, mostly RinHaru focused summary mixed with my incoherent ramblings and assumptions for those impatient under the cut. RH fans can read the actual full spoilers on the RH discord server (and i really advice you to read the amazing detailed summary there if you haven't yet, it's almost like watching the movie, just applying a bit of imagination lol). This post is really more of my ramblings than retelling the movie plot, though there are major spoilers ahead!!!

Me several months ago: if they parallel rinharu in the finale to s1 I will cry. Kyoani *releases the trailer* : well cry, bitch.

Just thinking that this scene is spread throughout the trailer and it ends with “what are you swimming for?” when Haru closes his eyes and it cuts to Rin, so I believe it’s clearly gonna be paralled to the “it was you who showed me that. You’re the reason I… I finally know the answer, who I swim for”.

Just wondering if Haru came here himself to retrieve his heart, after Azuma told him to bury it or did Rin drop him off and told him to think about his behavior lmao. Its just not only bc of the winter, but bc of the whole dark, cold atmosphere, it reminds me of the locker room s2 scene vibe of pure angst. But since they’re on a level of relationships now where they’re adults and both know what they want and not scared anymore to say stuff like “I want my future with you” and want to cuddle in motel beds, I’m guessing it’s gonna be something like “I need my Haru back” from Rin after Azuma fucks him up.

Also if Haru really cries and he cries in Rin’s hands, RIP my heart.
