ever since he was a young boy derek hale has known exactly what he wanted, or rather who he wanted, but when the stiles’ mother dies and he moves across the country, derek feels his own body being pulled along against his will. derek follows the boy to chicago and later, after stiles graduates from high school, off to new york and cornell university. derek has always found himself content just being in the same city, close enough to hear stiles’ heartbeat and know he’s safe, but things change the day that stiles stumbles into the werewolf’s coffee shop. “and what would you say if stiles finally noticed you watching him one day?” “i would tell him that in a city of almost three million people, his heartbeat is the only one i care to listen to, that when i pick up his scent it’s not just one sense that i feel, it’s all five of them at once like he’s somehow seeped under my skin and nestled into my bones. out of every human i’ve come across in eighteen years he’s the only one that has ever perked my interest, that has stirred up the wolf inside of me in a positive way. i’d tell him that i’d follow him across the world if it meant there’d be just the slight chance i would see him, that i could live the rest of my life simply content knowing he’s nearby.”

They try to keep a low profile and Merlin helps Arthur with the full moons. One night they find a wounded werewolf child in the woods, near the dead bodies of his parents. They mistake him for someone who’s part of Derek’s pack because of the tattoo the boy has. Derek does not like the idea of taking care of a werewolf child, but Stiles is going to insist. Teen Wolf - STEREK AU - coffee shop
Derek makes the worst coffee. It’s not an exaggeration. But his coffee shop is the most popular one in town. Why? Have you seen Derek? Yeah, Stiles shares the sentiment. That’s why he’s at the shop every day since it opened two months ago.
“So. Every single police officer at the Beacon Hills station has at some point or another threatened to press charges against this abomination of a coffee.” Stiles says with the most shit-eating grin. “If it’s so bad, why do you keep coming here?” “I was hoping you would have figured it out by now!” Derek growls, like actually growls, and then yanks Stiles closer by the shirt so they’re both hovering over the countertop, their faces mere inches apart. “Did you figure it out yet?” Stiles asks, swallowing nervously. “I think I did.” Derek replies and crashes their mouths together. He tastes the world’s worst coffee on Stiles’ tongue.

Because there is no way they are going to be like every other couple. So no promises, no spoken affirmations and no telling each other ‘they would die if separated’.

But when they had been visiting this city it just happened. He bought a padlock, they signed it. And now it has been hanging on this funny little bridge.
