y'know... y'know what i love about dirk gently's holistic detective agency?

it's about thirty year olds.

it's wildly refreshing to see 30+ year old characters developing as people and making new friends and having adventures, especially in a show designed for a teen to twenty-something audience - not because young people shouldn't do these things, but because of the modern assumption that "freedom dies at 30"; that, whatever you have at thirty (job/relationship/house), you have to keep forever.

meanwhile, we have todd: he's a 33 year old college dropout. he's had no friends since he got kicked out of his band and his life is a hellhole. he has a terrible job, a crummy apartment, and no money.

by the end of the show, he has two close friends, an exciting job, and a new lease on life.

we have dirk: he's in his mid-30s. also, he's literally a cryptid who escaped from a government laboratory and he's never been close to anyone in his life.

he makes tons of friends by the end of the show, including two best friends, and he accomplishes his ultimate goal: to set up a real detective agency.

we have tina: she's a small-town deputy in her 30s, a long-time drug addict, and she feels generally unfulfilled in life.

being involved with the case in series 2 brings her closer to her friend, the sheriff, and persuades her to choose "moderation," suggesting that she breaks her addiction.

anyway.... i feel like we need more shows like this. you're never too old to start a business, make new friends, have adventures, find new hobbies, or turn your life around.
