compassion isn't a regime, nor empathy an indoctrination. it scares me to see those concepts conflated - to witness people die on a hill where to care is considered a belief pushed too far, or a hope somehow enforced against others. it scares me more to know that people wholly of this belief are handed power all too immense. there's a hopelessness to seeing people buck against compassion and rebel against empathy; to watch it get labelled as a falsehood indoctrination, and to once again become the great scare of a generation. but of course it's not hopeless, the mattering of lives never could be. instead it allows for a paradigm constructed and bolstered again and again every time you act to its defense. where empathy and compassion flow not in weakness, nor as something gone to a falsified extreme, but as life's most basic tenets. in absolute sum: you believe it, so show it - there's no better figurative hill to die on
