A view over the Council Square (Piața Sfatului) from the Black Church (DE: Schwarze Kirche / RO: Biserica Neagră), Brașov, Transylvania, Romania. Photograph not dated (probably early 20th century).
The Black Church began construction in 1383 and was completed in 1476. It is home to a Lutheran (Augsburg Confession) parish of the Transylvanian Saxon community. The twelve statues which decorate its façade, as seen on the left of the above photograph, are currently being restored (with other sections of the church having previously been restored in 1937 and 2000).
Bishop Áron Márton (1896–1980) delivers a sermon from the pulpit of St. Michael's Church in Cluj (HU: Szent Mihály templom / RO: Biserica Sfântul Mihail) upon his consecration, 12 February 1939.
For the occasion, the 600-year-old church installed electric lighting for the first time (as can be seen in the photograph).

A lovely (if chaotic) looking group of young people sitting on a wood pile, May 1927. They're probably Transylvanian Saxons (??), but it's also quite possible they're Landlers, Austrians, or Germans. No location on back — maybe with a very keen eye the church spire in the back could be identified.
Found in Bucharest, August 2024. Colour-corrected due to fading / poor developing.

Three lower panels from an altar (the "Schweischer Altar"), depicting scenes from the life of St. Martin, in the Johanniskirche in Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania.
In their deteriorated state they looked to me a bit like Odilon Redon paintings — a little nebulous...
The altar dates from 1520–22 and was from Fișer (DE: Schweischer / HU: Sövénység), Brașov County, probably made in the workshop of Johannes Stoß.
The predella (as shown above) is original but badly damaged and fragmented; the upper panels (not pictured) were repainted in 1776 by Johann Weiss.
As seen on 3 August 2024.
