I think Golshifteh is trying to omit some things and not give future spoilers lol... But in that scene where Tyler jumps and saves Nik on the top of the building and that man says "you really care about this woman, now you'll know what it's like to lose someone you love..." there's a lot of evidence that their relationship will happen. Like when Tyler kisses her shoulder when she is crying over her brother's death. So it's a matter of time and from what I've seen on twitter, many fans want Nike happening in the future.
We'll see. I'm too cynical to think it'll happen, but I would like it if it did and I would like it more if they don't Fridge her in the 3rd movie like they did her brother.
I have to disagree with Golshifteh Farahani, I believe something is being written with the characters and I feel she doesn't want Nik to just be seen as Tyler's romantic interest, hence of that they gave her more scenes in the second movie and also why already there are ideas for a spin-off for Nik and her back story . So the chances of her dying in this franchise are inconsistent. But I also think that a romantic relationship between Nik and Tyler has not been completely ruled out, after all the chemistry between them is fire and fans want them together.
I disagree too. I've never agreed with people who insist women become invalid if they have a love interest in an action oriented story. This relationship is very natural and it feels organic to these actors. I'm fine if she insists that the writers leave it platonic, but it's a disservice to some of the fans. It wouldn't be OOC for either of them to fall for each other, imo. But with her being open about not wanting romance, chances of it going Canon are unlikely. Most of the time, unless it's relevant to the plot, the actor can make that kind of call and we're stuck like Chuck writing fics. I hope she at least sees what good chemistry she has with Chris.
I'm blown away by Nik and Tyler and their dynamic. But I've been reading some Golshifteh interviews and she said that their relationship is platonic and that Nik is not just a romantic interest. She said there was a kissing scene in the first movie but it was cut,.... but that they have a connection that involves pain and grief. I confess that I was disappointed with her responses and how she sees Nike. What do you think ?
Oh, not the least bit surprised. There are actors who push for platonic male-female relationships and that's fine. Based on the movie's tone and the fact that it's still difficult for studios (and actors) to accept a handsome white lead and a WOC, I'm more than sure Nik and Tyler won't become canon. It's not about that in this work of fiction. It's probably just gonna be subtext and sexual tension. And we'll be damn lucky if she doesn't die in the 3rd movie. 😒
What's really important to note over the course of two films is that Tyler Rake goes from choosing to live completely isolated, and thus not caring if he lives or dies, to refusing freedom if this new era in his life does not come with Nik Khan as a part of it.
Nik: Get your life together.
Tyler: Yes, wife.
Also, the way he asked when he was gonna see her again SENT ME. This is a deeply damaged man who doesn't like to show vulnerability, but he did it for her and I just ❤️❤️❤️
Nike is the most attractive ship right there , I need fics until the third movie arrives lol... The way Tyler looked at Nik in that early part of the first movie. Sexual tension is 🔥. Tyler loves Nik.
No lies detected, my friend. Tyler's love language is "I will literally dangle off a skyscraper to save you" and Nik's love language is "I will protect and take care of you but I will also low-key roast you when you deserve it." They're so devoted to each other and so much of it is held gazes and small touches. I'm so soft for how he leans into her when he comforted her and how he told Elba he would NOT leave her behind. I am SMOTE.
Extraction 2 (2023): “It’s pretty difficult to let someone you care about die.”
EXTRACTION 2 (2023) dir. Sam Hargrave
i didn't want to clog the tags but there's just so much to love about that scene with tyler and nik at the church. the fact that they're looking at each other like they're trying to memorize the other's face? the fact that nik looks to see the cops moving in and tyler keeps his eyes on her for quite a bit before following her gaze? the way they both turn back to look at each other the same time? i am Unwell
I was sleeping on Nik x Tyler in the first Extraction film but O H have my eyes been opened. I am INTO ‘man can’t express his feelings openly but his love language is acts of service and protection’. Their dynamic is so juicy and so good and like the silence speaks for what neither can’t really say and the fact that they are both clearly damaged people and yet, and y e t they clearly cares for each other. Like their LOOOKS it says soooo much. Into it, probably all on my own but I DIG IT HARD!!
Extraction 2 (2023): “I’m not giving up on him.”
I'm here for Nike as their ship name. It's funny and cute!
Also, what was your favourite scene of them?
Bwahahahaha! Yes! Alright, we're gonna call it Nike from now on!
It's hard to choose one! Um, lemme see...him waking up and telling her to fuck off had me dying. Because I'm a nuance person, right? I love if a movie--even one that I consider as frustrating as this one--knows the beats and quirks of its characters and shows me that they have a unique relationship, whether that's platonic or romantic, and that scene was so telling. It was telling in that Tyler is still Tyler even after his brush with death and Nik is his touchstone. He only shows softness and vulnerability when he's near her. He knows she's his safe place and she knows he understands her and cares for her just as much. I loved getting to see them together the whole movie through this time around. People will argue whether it's platonic or romantic love until they are blue in the face, but either way it is VERY clear they both love each other.
Him catching her before she fell off the building is another scene where I was wiggling and giggling like a maniac in my seat. Dude. Bro went off hard. He risked everything for her. He was not gonna drop her. Either they were both gonna die or no one did and that's some serious devotion and love right there too. Especially after my man got shot in the fucking hand and STILL wouldn't let her go. And extra kudos for Nik waking up and saving them both like the fucking badass she is. Gosh, their entire dynamic in this movie is the shit I get out of bed for. I LOVE two completely badass people who have an unspoken thing for each other but their actions speak much louder than all the shit they don't say to each other.
And lastly, props to the way they filmed him comforting her. He says nothing and just leans into her. Wow. Man. That's love, y'all. That's what it looks like. I mean, I would've liked him to have said something, but the touch was enough. It really conveyed that they've been through hell together and they are the other half of each other's soul, whether you argue platonic or romantic.
tl;dr--my three faves are him waking up, him catching her before she fell off the roof, and him comforting her. But last mention goes to "I'm not leaving her behind." YESSSSSSS MOTHERFUCKER YESSSSSSS OH HE LOVES THAT WOMAN TO DEATH.
Thank you for allowing me to fangirl like a dumbass. xD
