So did you start shipping Batman and Wonder Woman before the Justice League show or after? For me it was after.

Sigh.

My babies.

My stupid impossible babies.

Just look at them:

Yeah, JL/JLU brought me on board to the WonderBats ship. I’ve been happily floating along and no goddamn New 52 bullshit is ever going to change it.

I fully understand that this Wonder Woman is a lot more light-hearted than her comic book counterpart, but I personally adore how they wrote Diana in this series. She’s so likable and charming that it makes perfect sense that Bruce was naturally drawn to her. What has kept me shipping this since I was a kid is the fact that they are such a good match.

She’s so powerful and elegant and bold that it makes him notice her and respect her, and she sees through his mask of feigned indifference. She knows that he acts so cold and cruel in order to protect people and that the things he does are out of obligation and a deep need to be a fighter for those who can’t defend themselves. I love that she won’t take any of his shit when he tries to push her away, and I love that he can’t resist flirting with her or being near her when the chance presents itself.

For instance, I really love “Twilight of the Gods” because you actually see Bruce letting his guard down just a tad around Diana, like holding her hand and helping her up when she got hit, or actually making a couple of jokes (”I’m gonna need a longer grapple” and “The next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me real hard!”)

Or the fact that the writers realized how good their chemistry was (mad props to Kevin Conroy and Susan Eisenberg!) and set an entire couple of episodes around them because they’re such an enjoyable couple. I lament that Bruce canonically ends up alone, but I always have a headcanon that they did pursue a relationship at some point before Batman Beyond. They have way too much chemistry not to, in some form or another.

…I mean, did you SEE how he was petting her in “This Little Piggy”? There are people in Bruce’s personal life he doesn’t treat that tenderly.

*dreamy sigh* WonderBats for life.

If you're still doing the fandom meme, would you mind doing one about the animated Justice League/Justice League Unlimited series?

Not at all, good friend!

  • otp: WonderBats. All day, err day. Seriously, not even kidding, I wrote a WonderBats fic last night after watching “This Little Piggy” on Netflix Instant. I have been shipping them entirely too long and I’m not going to stop anytime soon. For me, it’s that Diana is his equal match in terms of personality. She’s not afraid of him or intimidated by him for the simplest of reasons: she knows who he is. That tall, dark, brooding man is who he is, but that’s just a part. When she realized he dug through tons and tons of concrete to dig her out from underneath that shuttle, Diana discovered that he’s not Batman to scare people, he’s Batman so that he can protect them. And she has nothing but love and respect for what he does and she understands why he refuses to let her in, even though she knows he has feelings for her. In terms of Bruce, he sees the strength, poise, beauty, and heart of Diana in its fullest potential and he can’t help loving her. She’s never been shy or ashamed of who she is in any capacity. Bruce is attracted to bold women, after all, and she is fearless and lovable and sweet-natured. Aside from BatCat, WonderBats is my favorite ship in the DC universe.
  • favorite canon pairing: Huntress/Question. Oh god. I also watched “Double Date” last night and it just slayed me how funny these two weirdos are. They are both off-kilter in so many ways, but it makes me love them to death. I love Question’s obsessive nature and his offbeat personality. He’s so delightfully weird that you can’t help loving him. Huntress plays so well against his personality and I really think they have the chemistry few others in JLU have. Especially after he’s taken hostage by Cadmus and the JLU busts him out. I still get a little choked up when he’s in the hospital bed and says, “You were right. I am the ugliest guy of all time.” and she says, “Not in my eyes.” So sweet. I adore those two crazy kids.
  • worst pairing ever: Superman/Wonder Woman. No. Not in the new 52 and not in JL. There’s a reason she went for Bruce, not Clark, people. They are not at all suited for each other. It’s all about yin and yang. Diana is attracted to Bruce because he’s her opposite. She’s sunny and beautiful and he’s dark and secretive. Clark is a Boy Scout and he doesn’t excite Diana the way that Bruce does, and Diana doesn’t excite Clark the way Lois does. Clark loves Lois because she is demanding, stubborn, fiercely focused, guarded, and intelligent. That’s what he loves. Diana doesn’t want the same life as Clark, and vice versa. They are absolutely the best of friends and that’s how they should stay. I will never agree with anyone who ships them in a million years.
  • guilty pleasure pairing: I actually once read a fic with Shayera/Flash that was ten kinds of adorable, but remember, this was before we got to “I Am Legion” and that’s when Wally and Shayera’s relationship firmly settles into a brother/sister thing. Wally grows up and develops a fondness for her instead of just hitting on her. My real guilty pleasure pairing is Vigilante/Vixen, and that’s thanks to a little episode called “Hunter’s Moon.” I blame Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres for their voice acting chemistry. To me, it felt like Vig and Vix had a history of working together, and they seemed like good friends with a hint of chemistry in the background. I could easily see them hanging out after hours (which I consequently wrote about) and turning from friends to lovers after John Stewart starts acting like a proper fucking asshole at the end of season two.
  • a pairing you want to see more: Flash and Fire were super effing cute in “I Am Legion.” I mean, she literally rendered the guy speechless. How adorable is that? Wally is too cute for words and I’d love to see him trying to work up the courage to ask her out.
  • that pairing that everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: Batman/Superman. No. They’re brothers. End of story. I get that this is fandom and so yaoi is the prevailing ship in every single fandom ever made, but not this time. Bruce and Clark are brothers from another mother. There is no way in hell they’d become romantically involved because they’re family. They trust each other without fail and it diminishes the relationship to insist they harbor Ho Yay for one another. For instance, one of the best episodes is “Hereafter” where all the evidence points to Clark being dead, but Bruce refuses to believe it because Clark has always come through and beaten the odds. That’s family, to me, not Ho Yay.
  • favorite non-romantic pair: I really wanted to see more of Bruce and John getting along. They were hilarious in “Once and a Future Thing” and the way it was so casual between them made me think they’ve regularly grabbed lunch together. I love the idea that Bruce stopped being so closed off and became friends with another Leaguer, especially GL because he’s a great guy (again, when he’s NOT being an asshole to Shayera at the end of the season.) I’d love to see them on another mission together like the one from OAFT.

Thanks for asking! JL/JLU is one of the best series of all time and I still read fanfics to this day because it was so well done. I just wish someone would show a fucking episode to David Goyer and Zack Snyder before they fuck up on the silver screen in a couple years. *Phil K Sebben voice* Ha-ha-ha! Bitter.

what's your opinion on this justice league war movie ? and more importantly what's wrong with the New 52 Superman? People say he's a god, and now he's acting like one. A Jack Ass with a Red Cape, the original knew he was a god but he didn't let it go to his head and wonder woman please don't let me start with her...

I still can’t sat anything about JL: War because I have not yet seen it. (Still thinking whether to watch it or not).

With regards to the new Supes, I REALLY don’t like his attitude. He’s such an ass and a jerk at times (especially in JL 3000). During pre-New 52, he was the epitome of niceness (in the male category). He was had god-like powers and he, at times, wished he was human, which is not at all depicted in New 52. With regards to Wonder Woman, I have no idea where to begin either.

First, my utmost apologies for hijacking this post, but I just watched Justice League: War, and I have some shit to say about it.

It is the first DCAOM that I actively hate.

I was floored by how incredibly unpleasant I found the movie to be, and for so many reasons. The only good thing about it was the animation, which is always fantastic because the studio hires talented animators, but that is literally it. Everything was wrong. The voice acting was subpar, the plot was nowhere to be found, and the characterization was some of the worst that I have ever seen in my life.

By far, the most intolerable character was Hal Jordan. They wrote him like a fourteen year old boy with a potty mouth and an attitude that makes Guy Gardner look as mild and polite as Peter Parker. He was such an immature, irritating jackass from start to finish. Yes, that's correct, he receives absolutely no growth as a character. Even after Bruce reveals himself and tries to talk to him rationally, Jordan is still a loud-mouth, irrational asshole. I don't believe for a second he was ever in anything resembling the military because they would have kicked the shit out of him for being so damn stupid and immature. The ring would never have picked him with that dickwaffle kind of behavior.

And in regards to the Anon's question, Superman was the second worst of the bunch. He was a self involved, thoughtless shitbird of a person. I mean, when Batman and Hal Jordan show up, he doesn't even bother asking a question more than once. He just attacks them and tries to kill them despite the fact that his whole damn city might have gotten blown to smithereens and the two of them, for all he knew, could have prevented it. They also had the same problem from Man of Steel, where he just openly attacked them in the full view of the public and put thousands of peoples' lives in danger without even trying to move the fight to an abandoned area. Nice job, Supes.

And then they saw fit to insert the shallow, pointless, chemistry-less "romance" between Superman and Wonder Woman, which made them both look like vain horny teenagers. I'm not joking, the line that signifies that they are attracted to one another is Wonder Woman saying, "You're strong." FUCK YOU. First of all, Diana don't need no man if she don't want one, and she certainly isn't just turned on by strength. Neither is Superman. Whomever wrote that needs a lesson in personalities because there is no way in hell that romance is believable, not in the movie, and not in the comics. There was a reason they teased Batman and Wonder Woman together in JL and JLU--they had chemistry. He was mysterious, brilliant, courageous, sly, and challenging. She was kind, brave, a bit naive, and valiant. That is what drew them to each other. Not physicality.

Cyborg was a whiny little child who endangered not only himself but the entire city by grabbing an unknown object just because he wanted to throw a temper tantrum. Grow a pair, dude. So your dad doesn't like your career. Fuck him. Do what you love to do and let him be a jackass on his own time. That was absolutely horrible writing and it made me dislike the living hell out of Cyborg.

Billy was also a tiny jerk, but since he's a child, and an orphan, I gave that somewhat of a pass.

Wally and Bruce were the only two characters who even vaguely resembled the ones we've loved since we were children. Although Bruce showed almost NO detective work or brilliant strategy that he's known for, like when Hal asks him what's going on, he just goes, "I don't know." No theories, no speculation, nothing. WORLD'S GREATEST DETECTIVE, EVERYBODY.

Also, there were no interpersonal friendships between the League. It was just a bunch of strangers punching things, and that is the main issue with this film. It's not the Justice League. The League was founded based on a need to save the world and because of the friendships and unique relationships the Leaguers had between each other. It starts with Batman and Superman being uneasy but trusting colleagues and works outward from there. In JL and JLU, they all had different types of relationships between one another and that's what made us love that show. No matter what conflict arose, they knew how to pull together and back each other up. They had their own issues and backstories, but they could put any tensions aside and do the right thing, and value each other.

This movie is an affront to good writing and to the characters it doesn't even try to properly represent. I don't know who was smoking what when they thought turning them all into irresponsible, shallow jerkwads was a good idea. Don't even bother with War, honestly. I might be reacting strongly to it because I'm a die-hard fan of the original DCAU shows, but I guarantee that there is little joy to be gleaned from the movie in general.

Kyo out.
