Has anyone yet thought about the fact that Maggie Dresden is going to be the most overprotected child of all time?
Let’s list off this girl’s immediate and extended family, shall we?
* Dad: Harry Dresden. Aka Captain Fucking Disaster of the Supernatural World. Literally wiped out an entire goddamn race of vampires to save his kid, is the fucking Winter Knight, a Warden of the White Council, and has killed a myriad of creatures eleventy-billion times stronger than him.
* (Surrogate) Mom*: (*provisional that as agreed at the end of Skin Game that they will now be together romantically) Karrin Murphy. Former head of Special Investigations, detective, and cop. Sharpshooter. Martial artist. Has wielded a Sword before and has also kicked the shit out of a myriad of creatures eleventy-billion times stronger than her.
* Uncle: Thomas Raith. White Court vampire. Expert swordsman. Ridiculously agile. Viciously protective of family. Brother to the current ruler of the White Court.
* Best Friend: Mouse. Foo Dog. Survived being hit by a fucking speeding van. Literally killed a goddamn Denarian by ripping his fucking throat out.
* Great Godmother: Leanansidhe. The arguably second most powerful fucking fairie in the Winter Court. Also batshit crazy.
* Great Grandfather: Ebenezar McCoy. Blackstaff McCoy, an actual wizard assassin who has gone up against all manner of beasties for centuries and has come out on top, no problem. Wizard of the Senior Council. Caused Kincaid himself to draw a gun to protect himself, for God’s sake.
* Uncle (unofficially): Michael Carpenter. Former Knight of the Cross, who is still protected by God and able to wield his Sword in emergencies.
* Close Friend: Molly Carpenter. Current Winter Lady. Expert in delicate magic, veils, and other intricate, important spells, along with wielding insane amounts of Winter magic on top.
* Aunt (unofficially): Mab. Queen of Air and Darkness. Aside from Mother Winter, probably the deadliest person in the entire Winter Court.
...I mean, can you imagine someone being stupid enough to ever threaten this poor child? Maggie’s support system would have to play Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who gets to kill them, how, when, and how slowly.
