Question About My Art Style!
I got an interesting question from someone on Reddit about my art style so I thought I’d share my response on Tumblr as well!
The question was “what is the name of my art style?” My style doesn’t have a name, but what I can speak on are my artistic influences!
For context, I’m actually studying to be a picture book illustrator! VERY different from the comics I post here on Tumblr, I know. But, I’m also really into comics and graphic novels. So, I look at a lot of art by picture book illustrators and graphic novel illustrators both indie and traditionally published that I enjoy (I actually recently found out there’s a subgenre of picture books called graphic novel picture books, which are what they sound like: graphic novels in the form of a picture book! So, I’ve been looking at artists who use this format to try to make my own!).
Specific illustrators whose work I love and pull bits and pieces from include the following:
Picture book illustrators: Patrice Barton, Dan Santat, Gary Kelley, Oge Mora, Matt Phelan, Charnelle Pinkney Barlow, Corinna Luyken
Graphic novel illustrators: Daniel Hansen, Tillie Walden, Mariko Tamaki, Hergé, Mike Mignola, Moebius
Editorial illustrators: Yuko Shimizu (I include her here because I love her pen and ink work!)
I have several other influences, but these are the main ones. I’m also really into animation and video games (not making my own animations and video games but enjoying them) so I’m sure that influences my work too! 💙

So, I’m making an Anya comic. Curly is there too being a man-fail. The comic is currently sitting at 26 pages and there will be more :’) Here are some roughs. Debating whether I want to finish the whole thing and upload it in one sitting or make several smaller uploads over a longer period of time. What do you guys prefer? Also, would you guys like to keep seeing process sketches like these or just final comic pages? Let me know your thoughts in the replies or in my ask inbox :’) 💙
